30 plus days in hospital

Recommended Posts

Hey team, well, my slfeeve did not teurn out quite the way I plan. Has surgrery , feflt good for less that a week and then it it was all down hill from their. I have been in the hospital since April25 and it is now May. I have a leak and their apporch is to withhold all food/liquiuids from my stromach until it it is fully healed. This is has been the hardest time of my life. I have a very good American surgeon, but life happens. Please do not think this only happens to other people. My medical bills are accumulating faster than I can place in a pile.

We all like to think this happens to other people...well I guess I am the the other person. Forturnately, I'm healing and the docs think I might actually get out of her by the end of next week. I just know...it's been the hardest time of my life. would I do think again...don't know. I cry in bed becasuse after 3+ weeks in the hospital...I want to go home to my bed.

Deedee - so sorry to hear you're still in hospital, and about the leak. I really hope they get it sorted soon and that you'll be home with your family.

Oh DeeDee...I feel so sad that this has happened to you. I hope and pray that your leak will heal very quickly and that you can get on with building the positive future that you planned when you had this surgery. Even though this has been the hardest time of your life, I still believe that you can have a good outcome. Take care and keep us updated on your progress!

I am so sorry it's been rough for you. You might try to contact tiffykins. She had a leak and a very rough start, but she loves her sleeve now.

Please know we are all thinking of you and pray you're home soon. Eventually, I am sure you'll be glad you did this, when you're throwing out all the clothes that fall off of you.

Wow I bet you are having a hard time. What were your symptoms after that first week that made you go back to the doctor or did they find it before then? I'm trying to find out all I can and what to watch for after. I said a prayer for you just now :)

DeeDee,

I'm so sorry to hear all this has happened. I hope you have some support. I agree with the others .... soon it will be a bad dream and you will be rocking your sleeve. I see that your in Austin. At least your in a great town if nothing elese. I'm from there and I miss it like crazy. I'm sure its hard to enjoy from a hospital bed.

I'm sending good thoughts your way.

Keep posting and let us know how you are

Ohhh DeeDee, I'm so very sorry to hear of your leak, and extended hospital stay. I went about 22 days with no food/drink with a pic line in my arm to "feed" me due to a leak. Luckily, my leak was repaired with heavy suturing, and I haven't had any issues since getting over the initial complications. I know how difficult, and draining complications can be. I did have an extended recovery, but I will be honest with you that once I was back on regular food, and getting around more, life with the sleeve became fabulous. I had my share of really rough days, but the victories have outweighed the struggles tenfold. People ask me all the time "would you do it again?", and my reply is always, "in a heartbeat". It wasn't easy, but it is very worth it. Please, stay strong, and positive. That's what got me through those tough days.

I'll definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers. If you need to talk to someone, please feel free to contact me.

I'm sorry to hear about your complication from surgery. I hope that things begin looking up soon. It seems like a good sign that you are able to get online and post your progress so we'll continue to pray for you to get stronger every day, and back home again.

Your bed my love is waiting for you and you will be there soon. I know that when I was in the hospital that the bed and the cats were the only two things I couldnt wait to see again. I hope you can get out asap and get on with your life. Once you heal you will reap the benefit of the sleeve and be able to look to the future instead of the sucky present

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
