Another non-believing doomed soul here. At least we will all be slim as were condemned to a life time of burning...I bet there are some great tans in hell.:D

I'd love to join you but I can't. I have a band not a sleeve!

It is strange though how if you say that you don't believe in God/are not religious people look at you as though you have two heads. I personally can't understand why so many people still believe in a God of some kind. I suppose for many he is a source of comfort although I can never understand why people praise Him when something bad has just happened to them. I can see the benefits of belonging to a church - Instant sense of belonging, being part of a community, social events etc. I swear belonging to a church would make it so much easier to make friends especially when you have moved as much as I have.

It's also weird how people think that Christians are the only ones with moral values. I mean they are always referred to as good Christian values. Well I don't count myself as one yet I still don't believe it is right to kill, steal , be cruel etc etc. and I like to help other people when I can.

Count me in! (as a rare one, that is)

I'm atheist AND a vegan AND no kids...and as of Dec 1st a sleever! Getting rarer all the time.

It's my first day on and I'm happy to be here with all you fine people! Cheers!

I knew there had to be more of us around here somewhere! I'm an agnostic and my husband is an agnostic atheist. I'm pretty upfront about it because there's no reason that I shouldn't be able to be.

Well, I'm hesitating to post but here goes. 2011 was quite a year for me, I got a VSG Dec 2010 and lost a massive amount of weight, started exercising and closed the book on a lot of health issues. I generally feel great physically. Spiritually my life has taken a real nose dive. I've just HAD it with organized religion, and by that I mean the church.

I guess I now count myself as agnostic as I am not sure WHAT I believe in. If there is a god I am hard pressed to see what role he actively plays in my life. This is after being an active christian for 35 years.

So guys you are not alone.

Another agnostic here. I don't mention it too often, because it just isn't worth the hassle I usually end up getting as a result.

Technically I would be an agnostic atheist, married to a critical atheist.

Just joined this forum and noticed the neatly laid out categories of sleevers. Then I saw a group "Christian Sleevers" and immediately smacked my forehead and thought.... "really?? They even found a way to bring being christian into weight loss surgery?!?"

SO I was happy to see that there is a place for those of us who don't believe. Safe place to talk about our medical, nutritional and emotional issues around our sleeves, because those are the thing that are relevant, and not worry about what God thinks.

I had this same thought! Living deep in the heart of Texas, I keep my athiesm pretty quiet.

For a long time I couldn't figure out why believers seemed so MAD at me for my non-beliefs. Then a pastor friend explained to me that many Christians feel threatened by Athiests because Faith survives in groups. That's a lovely explanation, but the other day a gal I work with said she could never vote for an athiest President because then "he would have no morals".

*sigh* Yes, I keep forgetting if I should or should not murder people. Which one is it, again? Ethics are so confusing without some type of manual......

All the same, I would LOVE to convince myself to believe in God. The comfort some people get through prayer must be absolutely wonderful. A friend from college lost 40 pounds and kept it off through that Christian prayer diet book!

I'm glad y'all are here.

I also don't understand the anger, animosity, and would it be accurate to say personal insult - that I have seen from Christians. And I so say Christians specifically. I know a lot of people from a lot of religious paths and Christian faiths are (so far) the only ones I personally see these reactions from.

I can't imagine being so venomous toward someone just because they happened to believe something different than me. I mean, who doesn't?

On a lighter note, a friend of mine (also an atheist) is an ER physician. We had a good chuckle over this a few weeks ago, but it's so true.

I love the humour on this page because in many places I feel outnumbered and it is so "not okay" to say that I don't believe in Santa or the Easter Bunny either but that doesn't make me a bad person.

I come from the pragmatic viewpoint that many wars are caused by two segments of people fighting over who has the better invisible friend.

Never mind that... I would prefer to be a good athiest than a bad intolerant Christian.

I have to say that living in Seattle is very kind to atheists; we even have a monthly meet-n-greet that is pretty well packed. I can't imagine living in Small Town, USA or in God's Country with my (non) beliefs. I would want to strangle someone, quickly.

And yes, the whole "you don't believe in God, so you must be amoral!" thing gets old. Fast.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
