Lan2k and Oregondaisy ....

Just want to make sure I understand the rules here .....

if you both agree with the poster's opinion then it is ok for them to post but

if you both disagree with the poster's opinion, it is ok to call that person names and be rude and they are not allowed to post??

seems I read something above, from more than one person, including your bff, that said people with good experiences should also be allowed to post.

does that not apply to me?? Really, I am so very incredibly sorry that I had a good experience and have seen first hand twice how things work down there. (you and your bff haven't right???, just going on hearsay, right???)

bummer, I guess I should have had serious complications so I could be in the "cool" group and not in the "hated" group.

LMFAO again

Group? I must have missed something. I personally do not affiliate myself with any such "group" or label such as "cool" or "hated". There's an argument between those of us who protest the undermining and intimidation of anyone who discloses the probable causes for a number of infections and leaks coming from a facility that you have had success with, and other's, such as yourself, who defend the facility by offensive and false accusation. In fact those of us who have been genuine have argued quite rationally, mainly stating facts.

I certainly don't "hate" you nor do I recall calling you any "names" for posting your good experience. To suggest that I might prefer that you would have suffered any complications is preposterous. I simply resent arrogance and lack of humility.

I have no doubt that we can have a relevant discussion, even a debate, without people getting real personal and unpleasant. Obviously emotions run high on this subject though and it is always difficult to read someone's posts and know for sure whether they are actually intentionally being harsh. Sometimes it just sounds like we're being mean when we aren't feeling that way at all. I don't think we should get upset anyway when someone has something they want and need to say. We should just try to keep our posts straight and honest. I haven't been posting for very long but I have learned a whole lot. I am very happy to have this resource.

Bjean,

I agree wholeheartedly with what you have to say. Clearly, many people here feel that I have crossed the line with my earlier post. That may well be the case. As a grown woman, I'll take the heat for that and deal with it.

My apolopies for what may have been rude discourse were quite sincere, otherwise I would not have included my apologies in the post. I feel that I have engaged in generic debate in expressing my opinion as others have for most of this thread. Unfortunately, I reached the point where my level of tolerance for what I felt was insensitive behavior toward people who have experienced complications had reached its limit.

I guess in my mind, people who are ill or have been ill and are perhaps still too emotionally hurt to speak up for themselves deserve some defense. Perhaps the nature of online discussion caused me to be more zealous and direct in that defense. After having read several stories of people's experiences with tears in my eyes, I wrote something that was laying heavy on my heart. Call it bitchy, childish, rude, or whatever you will. I have no problem admitting that all of what I said was not necessary to make my point. Much of it was said from emotions. I feel that many of us have been beating our head against a wall trying to make a point in a generic, vague way and I was tired of beating my head against the wall. So, accept it or not, the apology stands...

Mary to be real honest, I think that many people reading it were secretly doing a thumbs up. I too get tired of people being so artifically nice that it is worthless drivil. Well, I am guilty of that and for that I apologize.

Btw, youi write extremely well, have great points to make and I don't have to work hard at figuring out what you've said. I love that and I can say that I appreciate your posts very much.

Wish me luck. My surgery is at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow. I should be in bed but I can't sleep!

Mary, I'll be completely honest with you.

I was almost doing fricken cartwheels in my living room while reading your post. I guess it pretty much was "hi, pot meet kettle" post, and it was something that I wanted to state several times when this debate comes up, but I'm not as eloquent or well, truthfully nice as you were.

I truly applaud you for making some of the most valid points that I've attempted to discuss and something just seems to get lost in translation along the way.

Thanks, I'm home. Yesterday went well, I guess. It was quite frankly more difficult than the band surgery for me. I never had to take pain meds when I came home after the band but I am having to make sure I get them with this reivision.

I really appreciate your support lan2k, and Tiff I may be up to talking before long. Yeah, that's a threat. :-)

Thanks Tiff, I appreciate that. I am glad I haven't totally worn out my welcome here by going a little postal on this issue. I have decided that this surgery is going to save my life and I don't think I'll be as successful as I could be without the support of this forum.

Thanks for all the good wishes. I will let you know how it goes and I'm sure I will have tons of questions as I go along.

This is a fanstastic resource. If I didn't have your input I am sure I would have been thinking that there was something really wrong yesterday. It's so different from the band surgery. And the burning and nausea and stuff is no darned fun. But evidentially it's fairly normal and time will heal the wounds.

thanks you all!

Bjean, this subject seems to be to bash people and doctors and not for support. That is why I'm not posting more. I not going to feed the negative people.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
