Failte agus Slainte!

Hello Everyone,

Greetings to all from Ireland.

I just couldn't resist being the first poster from Ireland!

I am currently researching weight loss surgery and came across this webpage.

I was initially attracted to gastric banding but from reading this and other forums I am now much more interested in getting sleeved.

I am at a very early stage of this journey and may not go down this path at all.

I am a 55 years old female with approx 75 lbs to lose, I have a BMI of 35 and some problems with osteoarthritis and a fairly bad family history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and stroke. To date I don't have any of these problems apart from high cholesterol.

I think I am just borderline eligible under the strict international guidelines and best practice recommendations.

I am in the process of arranging my multidisciplinary assessment and will keep you all informed of my progress with them.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone else who can relate to my predicament and particular circumstances.

I am open to all comments- not just the ones I want to hear! Now is the time for me to discern what is best for me.

Regards,

Bookleen

Hi Booklean and anyone else from Ireland. Forgot about this site but got some email notifications so decided to update on here.

I had my op on 22nd of September 2010. I've had no real complications since and everything has gone well. So far I have lost approx 12 stone and am now expecting a baby this coming September!

Still losing very slowly during pregnancy but have been assured baby is getting all it needs. Would love to hear how everyone is doing.

Emma

Hello...

First off... confession time! I'm not Irish but Welsh...lol... can I join in too!!

Just wanted to say well done Emma on your amazing weight loss and on your pregnancy... how are you feeling?

12 stone is truly incredible! You were sleeved 2mths after me!

Hope everyone else is doing well, those newly sleeved and seasoned sleevers...

great thread! x

Hi coops,

Thanks for your kind words. I'm feeling great. No complications so far. I had very bad morning sickness and my gallstones started acting up 4 weeks ago. Ended up in hospital for two weeks but all fine since then thank god. Have to remove gallbladder after the baby.

I still have about 6 stone to lose and a lit of excess skin but fingers crossed ill get there :-)

It has been the best decision I have ever made to be honest and I hope reading this thread helps people out there to get the courage to go for it.

It changed my life. I was 32 stone and could barely walk. I'm now 20 and feel like a new person.

I hope your doing good and feeling fab x

Emma
