Welcome to VST. There is a great group here.

I think I can say almost everyone is a little scared of the surgery and also how will they feel after the surgery. Are they doing the right thing. So far I know of no one who has regretted having the surgery other than during the first week or so, which is a rough time for some of us, but not all of us.

So follow your doctors preop diet and postop instructions and chances are everything will be fine. You will be glad you did.

Viola - I'm also having the sleeve - a few days after you - I'm curious - how many sleeves has your surgeon done? I'm trying to figure out if this is something people ask their surgeons

Hi,

I didn't ask my doctor how many sleeves he has done. However, i did asked him how many surgery he has done and he told me he does over 100 weight lost surgery every year.

My sleeve is on Tuesday, I am counting 5 days.

Good luck with your surgery.

Hey Trish and other sleevers!

I asked my surgeon and he said he had done 56 sleeves so far (no alot) but had done hundreds of Lap-bands and gastric bypasses (which must be way harder) and sleeves are a fairly new thing so I wasn't too worried...

My op is on the 6th April and I start the Optifast fortnight soon. Im super excited but Im pretty scared. Am I doing the right thing? Have I tried hard enough to lose it the normal way? You know the usual stuff I am sure. But I keep on coming back to the fact that I really have abused my body to the point that a diet and a gym membership isn't going to crack it anymore.

Is anyone due around that time?

Jo

Let the count down begin all you April ppl. the sleeve is such a great choice. I'm 7 months post op, 6 months pregnant and totally happy with the decision. It is a tuff road but a winning road. (ohhh and the tuffness only lasts a very very short time till you adjust, sayyyy 2 months odd is fair) <grins> It will be the best choice you have made for youself in your whole lifetime!

congrats to you for choosing to take control

cheers

Ange

Hi all,

What a big step done, I am today five days post-op. I got discharge from hospital yesterday and I am doing really great. I am on a clear liquid diet and I don't feel hungry at all. The first two days were hard though but, you shouldn't be scared it was much easier than what i expected.

I am yet to travel back home and I will communicate more soon.

I wish you all good luck and God blessings be with:lol0: you.

Viola :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
