Starting pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself to everyone. I am scheduled for surgery on the 25th and started my pre-op diet yesterday. I am on Opti-fast and am not really thrilled with the flavor but am determined to stick with it. I am not nearly as hungry as I thought I would be but I have to admit I want to eat. I'm staying strong though because I want to loose as much before surgery as possible. My highest weight has been 237 but I weighed in yesterday at 230.

Hey loosing, Loser here.. lol.

I started my preop diet on Monday. I have several different Protein shake mixes and like powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury the best. The choc and vanilla are great. My first day was ok, yesterday was rough, really wanted a hamburger, hotdog, something not sweet. My partner made me some homemade chicken broth, and that really took the edge off.

I have lost 4 lbs since starting Monday... wow,, I may be to goal by the Feb 1st, my sleeve date. It is also helps drinking the Water. I am going to restroom a lot more than Iam drinking, so I think what I have lost is Water weight,, which is fine with me. I also drink 1/2 cup of V8 about 15 minutes after my shake, to get rid of the sweet taste. Today is the 3rd day and has been much easier than yesterday.. Hang in there.

Great job already! There are so many Protein supplements out there that DO taste good that I wouldn't continue with something you don't like. liquid diets are hard enough already! I've never used Optifast, but I really like American whey, nectar, and Isopure products. You can buy them at GNC and Vitamin Shoppes. I like the vanilla Protein shakes because you can add so many things to them for flavoring - frozen fruit, extracts, coffee syrups, etc. Of course, chocolate is also great and tastes good with a dab of Peanut Butter or a bit of Almond Extract. This website has tons of info on great supplements. You just have to try a few and find something that tastes good to you. Don't settle!

Good luck on your journey - sounds like you've got a great start!

My pre-op diet started today as well. I'm doing Pure Protein chocolate whey powder mixed with 8 oz of 1% milk along with a low-fat string cheese for Breakfast. lunch is another shake and cucumbers with sugar-free Jello. Luckily I get to have a low-fat/low-carb "real" meal tonight.

So far, the shake is good. It's actually a bit too creamy - I might make it 1/2 milk and 1/2 Water tomorrow and see if that helps. The taste is pretty good though.

Best of luck!

Hi guys - I started my pre-op all liquids today too....So far I've had 2cups of coffee, one shake and water...That's pretty much my menu for the next 2 weeks....I like the Unjury shakes as well...I haven't really tried many others since I liked this one right off the bat.....

It almost seems unreal that I won't eat any solid food for so long. I am so ready to do this though I am going to stick it through out of sheer determination. The closest thing to "solid" food I can have on my pre-op diet is sugar free Jello and I am definitely taking full advantage of that. It is nice to have some others going through this the same time I am. Thanks for your responses.

I start on the 19th. I am using Advanced Health Systems? That is all it really says on the box. I have tried it. Meh. Not so good. I will survive though!

Good luck to all you pre-ops!!!!!!!

I did the liquid diet for 3 days, this time it was not bad at all. Before my lap band I thought it would kill me!! I did not ever find the perfect Protein drink but I did use Vitamin Water too. Good luck to all of you, before you know it you will have this behind you and the surgery too!!

I'm on day 2 of the pre-op. 2 shakes (1/2 milk and 1/2 Water mixed with Protein powder) and some cucumber slices today. CANNOT WAIT for my 3 ounces of chicken and small salad tonight.

LOL - And just think ... many of us are paying out of pocket to do this. Just gotta keep our eyes on the prize and try not to think about our tummies wanting more.

Sorry - I guess that wasn't very nice of me. :biggrin0:

I have to start mine on Monday. Today in an effort to get ready I cleared out the fridge and gave away some of the food I won't be able to use up in the timeframe before I start. I chose the Optifast vanilla and am soooo nervous since I don't know what it tastes like, but like you am committed to sticking to this! I also have a Feb 1st sleeve date and am getting so excited to start this next step. I'm also a little bit stressed about not having any real food for close to 4 weeks... oh man cannot wait to be through this stage :drool5: Good luck to all of us!:biggrin0:

I am doing the blender thing too. I have also found that mixing Crystal Light instead of Water in the vanilla really helps the flavor.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
