Did you guys use a patient coordinator or did you work through him directly? If you used a coordinator what was your experience with them and who did you use. (Any links to sites would be helpful.)

Thanks in advance!

--Pam

No need to use an outside coordinator. Just deal with the office directly.

I was curious about Dr. Aceves. My friend is wanting to get the sleeve done, and I have seen that so many of you have been done by this doctor and only have good things to say. She wants to get it done in Mexico because she figures it will be alot cheaper, but we would like to know a round about price if anyone knows, and maybe a phone #? We would appreciate any help to get her ball rolling!!

There is an ad on the right side of this page. It gives the number and will take you to his website.

The email form to contact them is not working unfortunately. I think the only way to contact them is through phone.

I've been to Dr. Aceves twice for surgery, as well as my sister having surgery by him the same day as my first surgery. Both Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos excel in compassionate skilled care. The staff is very responsive to any needs you may have and their on-site patient coordinator, Yolanda, is a gem.

I was there last Monday for my revision surgery from Lapband to VSG. I went totally alone, not having a family member that could go along and the friend that was planning to help me got terribly sick with the flu. I still went for surgery and I never had a doubt. From the moment I was picked up at San Diego Airport until the moment I was returned I knew I was in safe hands.

I loved it there. I wish I could go back just to visit everyone there. I went alone too and never for one moment felt uncomfortable. In fact, I felt like I was treated like a queen!

My wife was extremely afraid of going. But once she was there and especially after going through the surgery, she wouldn't want to go anywhere else.

She loves her new stomach.

One day I will get one from Dr. Aceves. For now, I will plug along with my band.

I leave for San Diego this Monday and my surgery date is January 5, 2010, with Dr. Aceves!

Most of me is very excited but my husband's stress is bringing me down. He looks like he wants to cry every time I talk about it. He hates the 'surgery' idea and he hates the Mexico idea even more. He hasn't slept in three days. I told him not to stress me out so he is being good. But, I can see it in him.

He can never understand how this will free me. My every waking moment is about my weight. I wake up feeling guilty because of yesterday's unhealthy choices then I go to sleep with a plan to start fresh in the morning. You know how it is!

My dream would be for my husband to have the surgery himself. If I had to guess, I would think his BMI is around 46. He is such a wonderful person and I want him to be healthy with me.

Okay, so back to me. I just want to fast forward to the day after surgery and get on with my life! I am so excited. Yes, also very scared. I will be going alone because my husband's Passport is expired. I have known this for a few weeks but I did not mention it because I think it is better if he stays home.

All of you have been my lifesaver and you don't even know it. Thank you for taking the time to post. I have found such comfort in reading your messages.

I will check in and keep you posted every step of the way.

best of luck next week! You will be well taken care of!

I do have to tell you that having my honey join me made him a believer and that was great to have when we returned home. He couldnt stop gushing about the docs, hospital, cleanliness etc. I think friends and family tended to need that confirmation. They already thought I was looney!

Your hubby may still be able to cross the border with other documents. I would call nina or the office to check. It might eliminate some of his stress to be there..to see the top notch facility etc with his own eyes. AND if he does feel comfy there..it might lead to his own surgery in the future!

Happy New year with a new tummy!

Kris

I agree with Kris-

And yes, he can just reapply and cross with the receipt of the application, birth certificate and I.D. On the other hand, if your husband is being a complete buzz kill about it, leave the negative energy behind and go it alone. This crap is scary enough itself. You need nothing but positive thoughts and prayers coming your way:) Best of luck. I'll be going it alone I guess on Jan. 8th. Best of luck to you!!!

As far as I am concerned, Dr. Aceves is a great surgeon, and compared to the 20 or more grand you can pay in the United States, he is far cheaper as well.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
