And for those of you who have gone to Mexico recently, what was the price and what did it include?

My band surgeon also does VSG, but he's here in California. I've asked for a quote; still waiting to get it. I have Healthnet PPO, so am also wondering if they'll pay for VSG. I was looking into the band but because of the long-term issues with the band, it's not looking very appealing. I've been pre-opted so far and am waiting for an ulcer to heal before proceding to one or other WLS, not RNY though. Would love to know the financing issues/answers and ins. who will pay. Today I was watching TV and noticed that for some unk. reason I had gas pain in my upper mid-seciton. I NEVER have gas pain nor stomach problems, per se. I kept thinking that IF I had the band, this might be a common occurence.

There are tons and tons of reasons not to get a band, but I don't think thi sis one of them because, as far as I can tell, you aren't going to suddenly start getting stomach aches from the band.

The more likely problems are slippage and erosion. Erosion is largely symptomless, yet very serious. Slippage usually causes reflux and sometimes a sore throat.

Other things to worry about: port flipping, tubing or band springing a leak, esophageal spasms, and not being able to get proper restriction.

You should be able to access your insurance policy online to see what your exclusions say. I knew my policy specifically state that it did not cover ANY type of WLS but I submitted for insurance approval anyway, with no luck, so I am a self-payer....but check your policy and see.

Here, in Louisiana, the sleeve costs anywhere from $9800 - 14,000 cash.

i turned 60 last month, i have anthem blue cross of california who denied the sleeve as investigational, i requested an independent medical review and the doctor's office called today to schedule, yeah, i knew the sleeve was the only one for me, too many problems with band/bypass, it seems like it took forever, but people are winning their appeals, and more companies are covering them, kaiser, united, aetna, and soon they all will because to say it is unproven is balony, best of luck
