Surgery Date July 10!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I've moved my surgery date from August 9 to July 10; three weeks from now!!! I decided to do this because Dr. A is having a deal for the month of July. $8750 instead of $9500. I am very excited and very nervous. The only thing that I am not happy about is that my husband cannot come with me because of work. I truly wish he could be there, but luckily, my dad agreed to come with me. That is a big deal; I don't know if anyone remembers a thread I posted a while ago on lapbandtalk about my parents giving me HELL over this surgery and going to Mexico. Well, although my dad doesn't agree with me, he is still going with me for support so I am not alone. I feel very happy about that.

I cannot believe it is only three weeks away. I am starting ti feel nervous and scared. But, I know this is something I want to do for a healthier life.

Did anyone follow the Atkins diet for their pre-op diet. Dr. A wants me to follow a low carb high Protein diet a week before surgery to shrink my liver. Although I am not a meat and eggs kind of gal, I've been looking at the Atkins shakes and bars and I think I know I can do it.

Also, is there anyone else out there going to Mexicali on July 9 and surgery on July 10?

Congrats on getting your date moved up, and how exciting about your dad going with you. . . I did low carbs before surgery, but I stuck with chicken, low fat cheese, salads. I'm not a fan of eggs or pork. Congrats again ! ! !

Congratulations! I bet your Dad changes his mind after he goes with you and learns more. I did the pre-op diet (for all patients with a BMI of > 40) and you need to keep your total carbs to 30 or less for the day. I ate chicken, fish, and sugar free ice pops. You can look for low carb bread (I found one with 6 g but never ate it - LOL) and low carb shakes and Protein Bars.< /span>

Oh Rosey that is WONDERFUL about your surgery date and your dad. I agree with Elisabeth - I bet he changes his mind after the entire experience ...

I did the low carb/high Protein diet and found the atkins shakes and bars extremely helpful. I'm not a big egg person, although I can do scrambled eggs with 2% cheese and I ate that quite a bit during the week before (actually, I started on the diet a couple weeks before just because). Be sure to drink LOTS of Water with the shakes/bars, as I found them to slow things down in moving through my system, if you get my drift.

Grilled tilapia and grilled veggies were something else I ate too - very filling and tasty. You can do it, it really isn't that difficult.

If it isn't real bread, warm, loaded with carbs and butter... it really doesn't count. ;o)

Congratulations on moving your date up! My surgery is July 7, so I'll be there until the 10th. I don't know if we'll get to see each other or not. My DH is going with me, thankfully. I honestly don't know if I could do it without him as he is my best friend and my biggest supporter.

Good luck! Oh, and ain't is awesome about the promotional price! :confused1:

I think its great that you wont have to wait as long. I believe you dad will be impressed with the staff there and the care you receive.

If he's not impressed, then I will be amazed.

My surgery with Dr A is the same day!!! We'll need to meet!

That will be so great for you guys ... that is how Eyfura, Ruthi and I all became sleeve sisters ... Eyfura had her surgery on 6/10 and Ruthi and I were on 6/12 .. the hospital wing is very small and so easy to visit with one another -- plus you can go walking together!

DEFINITELY find one another and afterwards keep in touch ... Dr. Aceves believes there's a special bond when you go through the process together at the same time.

You'll love the entire experience (considering you're having major surgery).

There really is a special bond when you have surgery together. I still keep in touch with my sleeve sister. My sleeve brother was beyond weird, I have to admit I do not keep in touch with him. Nobody does. (blech) But Patti is great. I'll have to invite her here!

The day I had surgery the only other patient having it with me was a young man who brought his mother (she was banded years earlier by Dr. Aceves and wanted a revision). The day after my surgery, Dr. Campos and Ernesto and *Susan* all had VSG surgery.

Well Susan is your sleeve sister ... Eyfura had her's on 6/10 and Ruthi and I were on 6/12. So all-in-all it's "about" the same time - you were in the hospital togther.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
