Do you need to do pre op diet before revision

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am fairly newly banded (6/13) and my port has to been replaced ... I know so disappointing ...

Was wondering if anyone knows if you need to do the liver shrinking diet before .. My office just said fast after midnight .. So I was curious .!

Also, if anyone knows what the recovery is like .. Said it will be outpatient and home the same day!

I would think that the doctor would tell you if you do. If he is only revising port, then I would guess not.

What symptoms did you have or how did you find out something was wrong with your port? Just curious! Mine sits right below my left rib cage! I had surgery the 19th and ended up with stomach flu the 23rd which caused me to have to get all saline taken out of band. My port now feels like it is sitting vertical instead of flat!!

If your Surgeon is replacing JUST the port then usually NO, and if they said just fasting after Midnight sounds like a good plan, from what i understand a port replacement is done outside the abdomen , they don't need to open you up like when the band was placed, just cut where the port is remove it and replace it HTH.. GOOD LUCK!

I had my port replace on the 10th of this month. I didn't have to the pre diet again! Thank the lord for that. I took the rest of the week off and return to work the following Monday. I didn't have the pain like I had before after surgery I just took it easy until I seen my surgeon (today) I say about 3 months my port will get back in. I was Banded on May 1st and somehow my port got infected. I was a little upset but I got over it. I sorry this happened to you but everything will be okay. Good luck.

I was feeling no difference after my first fill ..when I went foe my second he could pull back the syringe and it was clear on the X-ray that the port was disconnected from the tubing. I didn't have pain.. But could tell my band was not sping anything for me

I had port revision 3mths post op, no diet before hand.

Port isn't placed by liver, like the band.

PS port revision was so much easier than lbs.

good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
