Hello, I came on here last week due to was eating like crazy, and I felt something was wrong with my band, well I went in for a fill and the nurse says Mrs, Jordan you should have good restriction you have 9.2 in your 10cc band so I asked her why am so hungry all the time, so she said let us measure the Fluid in your band, well to my surprise when she took all the fluid out of my band there was only 4. in the band, im like where in the world did the other 5cc go she said maybe some one miscalculated im like no because I write down the cc's every time I come in, im like so frustrated because now im feeling I have a leak in my band, they want me back in 2 days to measure it again, just really frustrated wright about now I pray everything is ok

Oh noooooo....

Scary that her first thought was miscalculation and was willing to bypass a leak.

Did you happen to notice the color of the Fluid, was it yellow or cloudy- a classic sign of a leak typically.

Hope it really was miscalculation or ?? I dunno..just not a leak :D

thanks ladies, I watched her removed the fluids it was clear im really thinking that the first nurse I had when I first had the surgery didn't know what she was doing, because when she would do my fills I would have liquid running down my side and she would just blow it off like that's no big deal, so my doctor requested she never do my fills again, but honestly im thinking that may be the issue im praying, I have had some issues with these fills but I want let it get me down,

I've heard about missing saline,I've had that happen to me also over the years and turns out, sometimes what people don't realize is that the port is suppose to "self close" after a fill, and "sometimes" you may get BAD FILL, where the port does not close properly and the saline will slowly leak out.

Also remember, and the nurse SHOULD be knowledgeable about the lap band to know it does not matter how much saline is in your band, but how you feel, the numbers don't matter whether you are in the green zone, it's ALWAYS how you feel.

If I were you, if this keeps happening, where you keep mysteriously losing saline, I would get a second opinion and find another surgeon's office that will fill the band properly.

Also, if the fluid comes back reddish or not a clear color that usually indicates a leak.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. My question is: Am I the only person who only sees their surgeon for all fills and doctor appointments? A few of my visits I had a full MD training to do WLS and he never did my fills, just watched and listened. Maybe ask for a doctor and not a nurse. Sorry nurses but you are not trained in every thing but you are usually better than doctors.

I always have the md do it, just feel better about it, and the staff is understanding.

9.2 cc's in a 10 cc band?

I'm going to guess with those numbers someone miscalculated...I know it's a 5cc difference, but still....

Have you ever had any restriction or feedback from your band?

Love how they make you sound like a car....LOL :D

You are a good "make and model" so hopefully all will turn out okay without a problem!

Thinking of you...keep us posted!

its crazy to me because yes ive had restriction that's what got me puzzled, im just confused by the whole thing, when I first had the surgery I went in for my first fill the nurse had such a hard time finding my port, im starting to think she just injected the saline into me instead of my port, when she did it the first time the saline was running down my side and she was like oh that's no big deal that happens sometime, but after the 2nd time she did that I told my dr and he requested she never touch me again, but they are going to have me to drink some type of dye pack that will show under x-ray if there is actually a leak, but honestly I have felt good in my body I just think the nurse that did my first fill messed up because my first fill was suppose to be 4cc but im going to make sure they get to the bottom of this, thanks everyone for your concern..

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
