Parting is such sweet sorrow

Recommended Posts

I am getting banded on Wednesday (9/11). I am absolutely thrilled. Beyond thrilled. But right now I feel like I am in mourning. It's like I am ending a relationship....an unhealthy relationship....with something I love. FOOD! My surgeon does not require a pre-op liquid diet, so I am eating like a freak. I can't get enough. I want to make sure I get every last bit of delicious goodness I can before things change for me. Don't misunderstand me, I am ready for this change. I am excited, motivated, and ready. But I have this constant feeling like I could cry! I'll miss you ice cream. Lasagna, it's been great. Sayonara Chinese food. Adios nachos. pizza Hut, I think I'll miss you most of all. I'll see you a little bit here and there, but it won't be the same. It won't be like it once was, with us spending so much time alone together. But it's time for this change. So move on with your life, because I am moving on with mine.

The feeling of mourning is very common. The reality is you will be starting a new life and eventually those things you are morning will not be as important. Good luck and see you on he other side

I didn't go through that, you see I got my wake up call almost 3 years ago when I nearly died from my weight. A doctor with no bed side manor woke me up with his very blunt and to the point truth. Thus I never got the chance to morn or say good bye to all my food friends! Guess it was the best way for me, I;m not real good with good bye's! But I totally understand what you are saying. Good luck!!

U will feel sooo much better and develop such a healthier relationship with food that ur past habits will fade very fast. By the way I treat myself every now and then with a thin veggie personal pizza from Pizza Hut :-). U don't have to give up everything but all in moderation . I've lost 56 pounds at 3 mos post surgery. Goodluck!

Thank you so much!! It's been a very weird relationship I have had with food but I am ready to change! Today is my "last hurrah", tomorrow I have to be on Clear Liquids and then Wednesday is my BIG DAY!!! I am sure that I will be posting more frequently after I am banded, and I really appreciate the kind words of everyone on this site!! It's so awesome to know that I am not alone!!

Look down at the scale and ask yourself, were those foods really my friends? Some you can have again in moderation, but your tastes will change. I know mine did.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
