Anyone out there who has had bowel problems ? :(

Recommended Posts

I have had real problems going to the toilet since my op. I have had to have two enemas to help me go, as it was impossible. I am now on 15ml of lactulose day and night to help me.

Is this a normal problem?

I know I am eating much less food now which I realise must impact.

But I would love to know if anyone has had similar problems and how long it took for them to resolve.

I was banded on 7/24/13 and am struggling as well! I am eating Protein first and hardly have room for roughage! I have had two fills and have 5cc's in my band! My doctor recommended Miralax...hope I spelled that right.. Told me to take it every other day to help me go! I asked if it would hurt me to take it all the time .. He said no... It works to bring Fluid into your bowels and helps you go! So that's what I am doing! Also try Fiber of any sort! Good luck!

I've had issues as well, Protein can be constipating! I take mirilax daily, one scoop in my morning Protein Shake, and this has helped tremendously. Started doing this the second week after surgery. I recently ran out and lets just say, I won't let that happen again!

Thank you for all your support. I am in the UK and haven't heard of Miralex, but will ask about it and see if it will help.

It is reassuring to know I am not on my own

Stool softener helps too. Everyone I know that has the band has the same thing going on (in this case not going)too.

I agree with Miralax every day. Once you've become regular you could try half a dose daily to keep you that way. If you need to go sooner than the 3-4 days it takes Miralax to work (like you're having cramps and bloating) try Dulcolax suppositories. The directions say to keep the suppository in for at least 30 minutes, but I couldn't keep it in for 15 minutes (and that was a good thing)!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
