Hey guys! Well I am officially banded now. I have to say the gas pain the first day was awful. Pain from my waist to my shoulders. Today is much better though I still have gas pains. I have done the Gas-x and the heating pad, but I cannot tell that it helped at all. My incisions are sore, but the main pain is from the gas, which right now is hovering around my incisions...Ouch! It is hard to find a comfortable sitting down position so I have been up and walking around alot. I am working on this breathing thing they gave me, but I cannot breathe in as deeply due to the gas bubble pain. But, I am doing it as much as I can. Good luck to Klober and New and Improved on your surgeries (yesterday and today)!

hi peoples I got on the table they started with the banding and stopped I was told my stomach was to high to do it and that there was something hard behind my stomach which was unusual so they took samples to find out what it was and I here back from them in 2 weeks to see what direction to go from there even know I felt like I had it done with all the bloating and aches and pains

Hi surgery buddies! We are heading to the 24 hour mark. Nerves are killing me! Will have no sleep tomo night. Have to be at hospital by 6am. I'm hoping I'm first on the list, think I will lose my mind if I have to sit and wait the whole day! How is everyone else feeling??

Hi Beanie80,

I am right behind you, going in on 06/27 (tomorrow)! I switched to all liquid today and I am waiting for the call from the hospital...

I am afraid that I have probably no idea what did I bring myself into :(

I have just receive the call from the hospital. I have to be in at 1.30pm and I am scheduled for 3.30pm. It sounds kind of a late appointment... :( The good news is, I can drink Clear Liquids until 7am. I could have just taken 1/2 day off from work...

Well I am banded. I arrived at 6:00am. We did paperwork and I changed and was on the table for 8:30 and woke up in the recovery at 10:00 and was in my room at 10:30. I feel ok as long as I was laying. Went I got up to walk I was very nausea and would gag. So the nurse gave me nausea medicine. I slept most of the afternoon and was sore when I tried to get out of bed. I stayed at the hospital 1 night my choice so I had good care and had some pain medicine around 7:00. I feel more sore today maybe because of the gas not sure. I am rest in bed and every hour I do my walk around the house. I am taking Tylenol for pain but can still feel it. It is hard to get comfortable on the bed. I am sure it will be better on day 3 and day 4. Good Luck everyone!!

Congrats on your surgery New and Improved! Wishing everyone a speedy recovery. Heather and Mac--everything will go well. Up until they put me under in the OR, I was thinking "what the heck am I doing?????" But, I kept thinking back to all my unsuccessful diets and I knew this was the right decision. Do not be surprised by pain the first day...as it is the gas they pumped in. And take your pain meds regularly...I can tell you that I failed to do this and had some bad pain. But it gets better everyday. Main problem now is I don't feel like drinking the thin, watery shakes or the Isopure. Gag. I got down a quarter of a shake. Other than that, I have had Water, tea, and broth. I am also using a small firm pillow held against my incisions when I move or get out of a chair. It seems to help.

Klober, I am anxious to hear what is up. Please let us know how things are going...otherwise, we will worry! Sending many prayers and good wishes your way.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
