Sorry you have to go through all this, I understand its frustrating sometimes. I've had the same problems you have in the past, but I would just go get a fill. (About every 3 months) Sometimes I would hit the green zone, sometimes not. And yes, I could eat a big plate of food too,. Why? you ask ? because I was HUNGRY !!! ALOT !!! But its a daily learning thing of what to do and not do. When I started eating too much, I found that if I ate a band sized meal of Protein and veggies, I was still hungry, so I would fill in around the edges with as much salad or veggies as I wanted. It always worked , as I wasn't hungry anymore, so I could keep my mind off of food ! I also didn't have to make or buy any different foods, and my body liked all the salad and raw veggies. I lost 50 lbs the 1st 7 months, (banded Dec,2011 at 225 lbs ) now im SLOWLY take off the remaining weight and im down to 162 !!! (Goal is 140 !) 3 weeks ago my Lap band Dr told me to I was eating too much, so go for about 1200 cals daily, move exercise from 3-4 x a week to 4-6, and track everything on an app like myfitnesspal.com. Ummm, ok, I 'll try it......... Hey !! I lost 4 lbs the 1st week and 1.5 lbs each week after that so far ! OK!!! I can do this and so can you !!! Good luck !!

Thanks for all listening I know I need to put effort in too but just desire that feeling of ok I don't need or want anymore! I think il get another fill and see how I get on just kinda surprised I need so much :) last time I went it was new nurse she had no idea what I had I told her but she said she wanted to check so measured it then - I wouldn't ever eat if I was full but it takes a lot to make me full and I don't go 4 hours without feeling some hunger - think I'm going to cut carbs dramatically I lost a lot of weight before doing that and the hunger goes when I do that - thanks again for listening was very down yesterday over it - I didn't pay for it my dad did so kind of feel like I'm letting him down too :(

Bubbs - I think cutting carbs is an excellent idea. I myself notice that when I keep them to a minimum, I don't get as hungry, and I lose more weight. If I eat one egg and a slice of toast, I'm hungrier a lot sooner than if I eat just two eggs. Carbs have their place, but it's much better to stick with the "good carbs", in very very small portions. Protein is the key with the band, and sticking to that with maybe a little bit of veggies, you might find a better sense of satiety.

Keep your chin up! You can do this!! I wish the band could make us stop eating, too. But the signals can be very subtile. But I really think that once you're at the right restriction, and stick to mainly dense Protein meals, you will notice a difference.

Bubbs, it could well be that you havent reached the right restriction yet, something that we used to refer to as the "sweet spot". It depends on what types of food you are eating. If you are eating lots of slider foods, chips, chocolate, ice cream - even normal food with a lot of sauce on them - then you will be able to eat a lot more than you should because they just slide past the band - hence the term slider foods.

I actually disagree with the other posters, I have had my band for nearly 5 years now and even now if I ignore the warning signs and try to wolf down that extra 1/2 a plate full I will throw it back up again. That isnt because my band isnt working its because it is! I call it my choke chain - it yanks me back when I get greedy.

The best tip that I can give you is to eat your food dry. By all means have chicken and veg - but you cant have mash because that sliiiiides down too easily - but you have to have the chicken dry, no gravy or mayo or anything else that will turn it into a Soup in your mouth. I ate a lot of salmon mashed up with a smidge of mayo that I spread onto ryvitas ( dont know if you have those in the states) loads of chicken and fish and flavoured rice - but I never allowed myself a sauce.

If after doing that you can still eat whatever you want, you need a fill!

You should not be able to eat a 12" sub when you have a band - I know, I tried and it did not go well for me! When I could eat a 12" sub my doctor told me I needed a fill, the whole point is, as you rightly said, that it RESTRICTS the amount you can eat.

I also had no restriction at around 7 but reached my sweet spot at 8.5. The band is a tool that if you use it correctly will enable you to no longer worry about food, if you cheat constantly, it wont work.

Ryvitas in the states are called Ry-Krisp.

Thanks bubbs for posting this. I really needed to read it. I'm going through the same thing and all the comments I've read have helped me too! Carbs are definitely my enemy! I'm going to cut them way down and see if it makes a difference. I haven't been following the rules. I need to get my will power back and eat Protein first and veggies more. I know what to do I just need to do it. But that's been my life story with eating healthy and exercise. I wish you luck! Thanks for helping motivate me :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
