Date set: July 11th - any other July banders?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for your responses. I was concerned because my doctor said my surgery will be out patient and I go home the same day.

As for my pre op diet it's going ok. I still keep managing to go a few calories over my diet but I'm down 5 pounds. I've gone from soda to izze's and now diet soda. I don't know how I'm going manage to give up carbonation all together after surgery!

Funny I'm getting anxious & scared but happy about the longterm effects.

Hey Marieh-

My random 2 cents - you might want to cut the carbonation now. There are so many other tests of will power post surgery that starting to get off the bubble now may make things slightly easier in the long run. I'm a seltzer fiend and had to stop weeks ago to let the craving ebb a bit. Good luck either way - I know how hard it is to give up!

I am set for July 16. I don't have to do any liver shrinking.. so, I'm going to enjoy tomorrow, and my son's 20th bday (which is Saturday), before I do anything drastic. I will be minding calories, but I still want to enjoy those days while I can. I start the pre-op cleanse on the 14th. Nervous, and excited, all at the same time.

I just had a, laproscopic, radical hysterectomy, almost 3 weeks ago.. so, I'm hoping that they can just use some the incisions that I already have in place. Fewer scars > More scars.

Here's hoping!

Hello everyone!

I am banded! I And say say to report the news and hope that everyone is doing well. I do have a question! As I lay here at my overnight stay in the hospital I'm trying to go over this in my head. I gave my surgeon permission to as use her tprofessional judgment on which band (size, brand. My placed the realize band In me. I was very prepared for the regular lapband however I completely respect and value her professional opinion.

So:

1. Does anyone already have the realize band? If so, please explain the difference between the Lap band and realize band?

2. Has anyone requested a realize band?

Any other pertinent info? Positive remarks please, I'm having a very emotional reaction to the Anesthesia.

Thanks in advance.

I will be getting the realize band - it is the only brand my surgeon uses. I don't know the details of the difference but I kinda remember someone on LBT saying something about the trend moving more towards Realize in the last couple years. I don't think they work any differently (tho I haven't researched it).

So happy you are thru the surgery!!

Maggie -

I did some quick googling and it looks like the primary difference with the realize band is that the port can be placed lower on the body so it is less noticeable as you lose weight. http://www.obesitycoverage.com/weight-loss-surgeries/surgeries-compared/lap-band-vs-realize-band

I have the realize band as well and I honestly forgot to ask why he went with it. I trust his choice 100% as he is part of a Bariatric Center of Excellence. Glad to hear you are doing well

I am going to the store this weekend to get what I need for post surgery and I was reading all the diet stuff my nutritionist gave me and I only have 1 day of Clear Liquids. Then 7 full liquids, 14 mushies, and 14 soft foods. Does anyone else have just a single day of clear liquids post surgery? I'd somehow anticipated that might be longer.

They cut u in 5 places? I was told I'd have one incision on my outer abdomen

I was 5 as well. I have not heard of 1 unless they are not doing the surgery laparoscopic.

In regard to Realize band - This is from Wikipedia:

In the U.S. market, two types of adjustable gastric bands have been approved by the FDA: Realize Band and Lap-Band. The Lap-Band System obtained FDA approval in 2001.[8] The device comes in five different sizes and has undergone modification over the years. The latest models, the Lap-Band AP-L and Lap-Band AP-S, feature a standardized injection port sutured into the skin and fill volumes of 14 mL and 10 mL respectively.[9]

The Realize Adjustable Gastric Band obtained FDA approval in 2007.[10] Realize Band-C has a 14% greater adjustment range than the Realize Band. Both the Realize Band and Realize Band-C, however, are one-size-fits-all. The device differentiates itself from the Lap-Band AP series through its sutureless injection port installation and larger range of isostatic adjustments. The maximum fill volume for the Realize Band is 9 ml, while the newer Realize Band-C has a fill volume of 11 ml. Both fill volumes fall within a low pressure range to prevent discomfort or strain to the band.[11]

Thank you. Remind me of when your surgery was? I'm trying not to get discouraged because I am also insight from my cousin who has a realize band. She told me it took her six months to start losing weight....which just baffles me.

I'm a sissy when it comes to pain, so with this unexpected band, I'm very emotional and anxious bmabbhh

Got a call from the surgical scheduler this morning' date=' and my date is set for July 11th! I was hoping it might be sooner, but not surprised it worked out this way. Means I will be starting my liquid diet while I'm traveling for work - so that will be interesting. I'm also wrestling with not having our annual 4th of July BBQ at my house (which is in a prime location for watching fireworks) - maybe I'll just have ppl over for fireworks but avoid smelling burgers on the grill all day.

Anyone else have a July date set? Wanna support each other through the next weeks?[/quote']

I'm due for surgery 6th July, not long now, this pre op diet is pretty tough still on day 13

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
