Was banded on Monday and just got discharged from the hospital today finally! As far as the band I didn't have any complications my lupus added some extra challenges. But all is well now thank goodness. I also have 5 incisions in my abdomen. I will be on Clear Liquids until my first post op appointment on July 10th. I guess they are all really different. Still in pain but very glad to be home and ready to get on with my new journey!!

I am involved in a study and found out Monday I will be getting my lapband surgery in July. I'm waiting for the surgeon to contact me to set the date. With the study, I had to do my two week liquid diet prior to approval. So, I made it through the two weeks without cheating once. I lost 18 pounds. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be. I think the 3rd day was the toughest for me. I'm also looking for support through this forum and would love to chat with others who are on this exciting journey! :)

Hi team July banders! My date is July 10th I m returning to work on July 17th. My coworker recently had the surgery and advised that I take more days off. So I did! Praying for a successful outcome!

Got a call from the surgical scheduler this morning' date=' and my date is set for July 11th! I was hoping it might be sooner, but not surprised it worked out this way. Means I will be starting my liquid diet while I'm traveling for work - so that will be interesting. I'm also wrestling with not having our annual 4th of July BBQ at my house (which is in a prime location for watching fireworks) - maybe I'll just have ppl over for fireworks but avoid smelling burgers on the grill all day.

Anyone else have a July date set? Wanna support each other through the next weeks?[/quote']

Hello my name it Tawnya and I am also having the lap band on July 11th good luck to you!!!

Another band twin :)

Welcome to the July Bandsters - good luck to us all!

I'm day 8 today on 2 week pre op diet. Finally getting to a point where I'm not hungry all day - tho it does come on with a vengeance later at night so I've been going to be a little early to avoid it.

Hi all!!

I've been okay on my preop diet just counting down the days until July 11th. Now I'm at the point where I'm forgetting to eat. Today being the 4th of July, I've thrown will power out the door. I've had a little bit of this and that but I've still taken the time to log my calories tho. Nerves are getting the best of me here and there. I figure if I've had 2 c-sections and a hysterectomy, lap band pain shouldn't be near as bad.

I just got my band on july 1 of this year. I was feeling fine once I came out of surgery and then hours later I was hit with an annoying pain of gas. it is from the co2 gas they pump you with. They will tell you to walk it off. its been 4 days and the pain is horrible. I can't really eat(liquid diet) or drink Water. I have five incesions and the only one that is tender is the port area. I've lost almost 40 lbs pre surgery and hope to lose even more. Good luck with your band.

Hey all, was banded the 3rd, spent the fourth watching (kinda) fireworks from my hospital window lol. Looking to get discharged this morning. Everything looks good to the surgical team so needless to say I'm ready to go home. Not looking forward to the 2.5 hour drive home but it'll go quick!

I'd say the most annoying symptoms were my own personal anxiety, coughing HURTS (mucus built up for me), and mild to moderate pain near my port. It'll get better though!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
