Taking Cruise in November

Has anyone ever tried to get a cost reduction due to having the band since we eat like children? Just curious. Taking cruise in Nov (Disney)

I have actually never tried. I usually bring home the left overs or I just don't bother. I probably should try it or see if I could order from the kids menu. Funny thing is I think I would be embarrassed at nearly 300 pounds asking to order from the kids menu.

As for the cruise the way I understand it is meals are generally included?? At least it was on the Carnival cruise I did in 2008. Maybe Disney is different.

The meals are included just thought since my 11 year old is half the price of adult I would ask. I agree, very embarrassing. I know I will never eat that much. Thanks!

Cruises are usually a combined package for meals and rooms. I doubt they will give a discount for WLS passengers. I am a confirmed cruise addict. One reason I had the band was due to some bad experiences on past cruises when seating became an issue in the dining room, and discomfort on planes.

The line I typically cruise on charges the same amount regardless of age. The difference in price for your son could just be a third or fourth person in the room discount and not actually a kid's discount. Even if Disney gives a discount for children, I would be shocked if they discount an adult due to banding.

As far as getting a discount when you eat out, I have a card from my doctor's office that states that I've had surgery and to please let me order off the kid's menu. However, typically the food on the kid's menu is garbage that I wouldn't eat even if I wasn't banded... hot dogs, mac & cheese. PB&J! Yuck!!

Where I have used the card with success is when we eat at a buffet. I simply won't pay adult prices at a buffet because it is a huge waste of money.

that is a great question.... now i have to do some research. I want to go on a cruise too and was wondering the same thing.

Too the rest of you.... Never be embarrassed to order off the kids menu if you can. I use and show my LB card every time when i eat out.

but know that the kids menu is not normally the most healthy choices... What i do is if there is fish or shrimp on the kid menu, i ask if it could be grilled. most of the time it can. Or i will order the hamburger tell them too keep the bun..... and instead of French Fries, i ask for steamed veggies or potatoes. Most of the time it comes with a drink... i just tell them to keep the drink...

I suspect it is unlikely you will get a reduction. Nice thought though. Keep a special eye on portion sizes though... I gained 9 pounds in 15 days.

Great advice Cheznoel. I saw your post about the cruise. By Nov, I will be 6 months in (hopefully substantially smaller). Thank everyone for the feedback. I am calling Disney tomorrow. Will follow up.
