1st thing to eat post op

Recommended Posts

Didn't your Dr give you a list of liquids that are acceptable for the first two weeks? I am sure someone overlooked that if not. Get yourself doing something outside your home, nervousness is probably the kind of overeating you are used to. I had a wise auntie who said if I was nervous, then that was wasted talent. She encouraged me to find some kind of art, or music or crochet or gardening, whatever to busy up that talent. She was right. Now I create all kinds of thing with my hands. Let nervousness teach you something new!

I think you misunderstood my question. It was more for ideas and what ppl ate for the 1st time and how it made them feel. Yes I have a list, my dr didn't overlook it. I'm not overeating because I'm nervous. I'm nervous about eating something a little thicker for the 1st time (yogurt or cream soup) and how my stomach might react. I have plenty to do and keeping myself occupied. When the surgeons office called to check on me yesterday they even commented about me being an over achiever because my walking every 90 minutes consisted of me walking around the block and I had done a few dishes and not just laying around. I'm feeling pretty good actually.

I am currently one week post op and my nutritionist said that I could eat mushy foods in the serving size of 1/4 cup such as yogurt (Greek Lowfat), applesauce, mashed potatoes, tuna, chicken salad and sweet potatoes however everything is on a schedule alternating every 4 hours with 8oz Protein Shakes. I go back in 4 weeks to have my band filled then I am on soft mushy foods for the next week or so....... You will be able to tolorate the shakes and other products, I would suggest that you eat slowly and if you can not finish it save it for later. Also I would suggest that you speak to a bariatric nutrionist she will be better able to assist you with your diet.......My doctor gave me a list of foods/drinks to eat also you can go to this link listed below...........http://www.lapbandta...to-eat-post-op/[/url]

Besides your Water and broth what's the 1st thing you ate? I'm on day 2 post op. yesterday was clear liquids and today is full liquids. I have sf Jello and some sf pudding. I'm just nervous and not hungry. Right now I having some chicken broth and my crystal lite.

I am doing creamy Soups and muscle milk. I am also a little nervous about eating much. Today I am 1 week post op. I still have 1 week on liquids. I am more nervous about stretching the pouch or slipping of the band. After the long fight to get here I don't want to screw it up. I don't have much of an appetite yet. So I guess that's a plus.

The first thing I ate after the broth and Water was Lime Jello which was on Friday then Sunday, I had lowfat greek yogurt with 1/4 scoop of unflavored Protein Powder. I had 1/4 cup of Tuna(packed in water) for lunch with a table spoon of baked sweet potato on Tuesday then 1/4 cup of chicken salad (bite size pieces for chewing)

My nutrionist said it was ok to eat soft mushy foods after my one week followup but she said that it had to be measured.............So, I understand the sugar free Jello and pudding however with the pudding and other soft food items I was told to add 1/4 of powdered Protein. Excluding actual meat, egg and nut products......

Your right! I did completely misunderstand your question! I only remember the first bite of something in the beginning because I let myself get too hungry. Other people will have so many different things that they ate post op, its easy to think that their experiences could be safe, when it was only safe for them. As long as you keep communicating with your Dr. you will succeed, and your band will teach you. Baby steps are what I have to go back to as I am recovering from Cancer and I am still on oral chemo. I remember the freedom of being at goal weight when my body was not dictating to me what I could do. I only remember eating if my tummy really growled from emptiness. That freedom from thinking about what to eat next was awesome. We are blessed to have good medical care! Best Wishes.

Hey Ginger!

I had broth and mostly Water the first day after surgery and then I went to full liquids. I was eating yogurt,pudding and cream Soups. I have pretty much been on that stuff until today. Had my 1 week post op appointment in Clinton yesterday. I'm on pureed and soft foods now. Your still healing at this point and your not going to feel much hunger. I just tried to get something down at least every 4 hours or so I wouldn't build up pressure when I would start to feel hungry and my stomach would growl. Glad to see your doing good!

I was banded on Tuesday May 28th. Pain getting up and down has been worse than I thought. I did Jello and broth and a popcycle for the last two days. I had my first shake for Breakfast, but had to finish it for lunch. I had a late afternoon pudding. Not often hungry. Probably have broth for supper. It seems to help my meds go down. I am just resting because I am preaching on Sunday and doing communion.. I hope I will be up for that and two members having surgery next Tuesday in Champaign Urbana. I love reading your posts. It helps. Thanks

You are so lucky you get to have full liquids on day 2 out of surgery. I have to wait a week. The first thing I'm gonna try I think will be a cream Soup then maybe yogurt if i can handle the Soup good. That's if I can have yogurt on full liquids I have to check my list. Unlike revdrkatie I don't have to get out and do anything big till Monday. I had my surgery the same as you and her. I'm wondering if you can stretch your pouch on liquids because I feel so full and bloated when I drink anything. How about you? Good luck with your recovery.

~~~Stephanie
      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
        So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!
      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.
        That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.
        Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
