Pre-Op Diet for June 10th Surgery

Recommended Posts

Weekend was hard but I made it. I've done pretty well and it is starting to get better. My pre-op diet is 3 Protein Shakes, a can of Soup, and a Greek yogurt. I lost about 18 lbs week one. There have been a couple if days when I was working in the yard that I had to eat a little beef Jerky. I have also had a baby bel cheese once or twice. I've been pretty disciplined though. I am hungry when I get home from work, but feeling my clothes fit a little better keeps me motivated. Come in June 10th! Good luck everyone...we can do this! It's comforting to me to know others are going through the same thing.

Well this is day 3 of my preop diet and I have lost 4.8 pounds. I'm drinking 2 Protein Shakes a day a piece of grilled chicken breast. Hope to keep up the loss for a good jump start to surgery on the 13th.

I'm supposed to be on full liquids- however I became extremely ill so if I can get 1 grilled chicken breast it keep me from getting extremely sick. I have got to be able to function at work

I work at the hospital where I'm having my procedure. I'm going to tell my doc how miserable I am (lol) and see if he liberalizes it. ;)

Keep it up everyone we will do this... I'm on day 7 and it hasn't been fun! I'm restricted to shakes, sf Jello, sf Popsicles, and broth. It's better, but still not easy, the worse part is wanting something to chew on. We are all getting closer!!

I officially hate drug reps! Our office gets lunch catered on Tuesdays and Thursday and Breakfast on Wednesdays from reps. This am it was the full Cracker Barrel spread???± if that wasn't bad enough another rep came in and brought 2 boxes of Cookies from the bakery. No wonder I have gained 20 pounds in the last year and a half.

Well back from my pre-op appt. Got my prescriptions filled and instructions. It's really going to happen! I have to be on Clear Liquids 48 hours prior. I'm excited. I asked him what cc band is usually used. He said 10cc is the most common, but men commonly get the 14cc, but it is determined during surgery. Then 6 to 8 weeks for my first fill. Sounds pretty standard to me. Almost there, can't wait for Monday. I think my anxiety is settling down. :)

Absolutely, good luck to us both Bigtex. It seems all my anxiety is gone. I just want to get on with it, in a good way. I'm guessing you're feeling the same way. :)

I did it today. Today was my surgery date.

I'm in a lot of pain w nausea and I was dry heaving earlier. So I am staying overnight. Walking feels good but it makes me lightheaded and nauseated but I'm starting to feel better.

Would I do it again? Ask me in a week.

But I am glad it's over and I'm starting the next best journey of my life

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
