Carbonated drinks/alcoholic beverages

Recommended Posts

No carbonated drinks - EVER. The gas plays havoc with the band, and can cause issues you probably don't want to experience.

Alcohol is another story, but certainly not early in the post-op phase. You have to take into consideration that there is zero nutritional value in alcohol, and it also tends to bring down our resistance to eating in a way that we shouldn't. I know for me, eating a lot of finger foods goes hand in hand with drinking. But if you do decide to have a drink or two, make sure & count the calories in your daily allotment.

When I was in the hospital having my Lap Band surgery, my roommate was in having her band replaced. Her band not only slipped but her stomach prolapsed up through her band- and it was caused by her drinking soda. She also regained 40 pounds.

You couldn't pay me to drink carbonation since being banded, I don't ever want to go through what that woman did. It's just not worth the risk.

Best wishes.

My dr said no carbonation or alcohol for 6 months and even THEN, open it and let it sit got a few minutes. The alcohol is due to dehydration too early after surgery.

Good to know. I haven't had a soda in a long time, even before the surgery. So I'll just try and stay away.

No to carbonation...works OK flat if you must have the taste. With Alcohol you should always count the calories as they add up, and do impact our resistance to food.< /p>

I guess I should stop drinking it now, so I'm not craving it after surgery. Thank you for the info!

Do you drink/like Crystal Light? It's allowed, and a good alternative. I was strung out on diet coke for a long time, but stopped drinking it a couple of years ago. And I'm glad, because that was ONE less thing for me to give up with the surgery. Giving up Advil was hard enough!!!

Speak with your Dr.....I am 2 1/2 years out, drink carbonated drinks all the time...no problem but you have to know what you're doing....I had 2 beers yesterday, and plan on quite a few more at the holiday picnic Sunday.....(doubt I will any food)

I don't drink everyday, but when I want to nothing stops me....but then again, I know how to "Listen" to my band, and work with it....and my Surgeon is fully aware...

I have not drank soda in over 3 years purely for health reasons......

I agree with B52. You have to know YOUR own band and what it can and can't tolerate. I've never (in 3 1/2 yrs) had my own soda (I take a sip or 2 from hubbys when out to dinner) and since I occasionally have sips, I don't feel left out. I occasisonally have a beer (maybe twice a mth) or a margarita. I've never actually finished a bottle of beer either!

Good luck!

Marci

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
