It's been four month, two fills a change in eating habits and six days a week at the gym and I have only lost 10 pounds. When will I start seeing the benefits. As of right now, I'm regretting having this surgery.

Don't be dismayed. I haven't been banded yet, but know from prior weight loss attempts that every body is different. You've seemed to hit a plateu before you got off to a good start. Examine what you are consuming. My advice would be to bump up your Protein - like starting on a 52g (2 scoop) shake within 20 minutes of you waking up in the morning for about a week. This will shock your system and give our metabolism a jump start.

It's one of those things, when you body gets going it's going to melt quickly. I've heard that you shouldn't really expect a huge difference until about the 3rd month. Good luck to you and keep in mind that you have to find out what it is your body wants...the sugery was the right thing to do. Without it you might not have lost the 10 you have so far, but rather gained 10.

So sorry to hear your at a stand still. I'm just starting I get banded the 28th of May. I get nervous when I hear thing like this. Do you mind if I ask if your counting your calories or eating band size portions? If you are maybe you have just have not reached that "green zone" they talk about. Good Luck

Hello!

Hang in there. Keep a journal of what you're eating ~ you'd be surprised at the cal/carbs you consume unknowingly. Additionally, speak w/your doc and nutritionist. I personally didn't see the true benefits of the band until I reached my sweet spot and that took a number of fills to get there. Often the doc will take a conservative approach and only give you small fills at a time. Remember, this is your body and journey... I had to insist that they give me a larger fill, once this was done I started seeing results.

Don't suffer as I know people who get way more fill than they should, you just need to find that happy medium.

Wishing you great success.

You don't mention if you are hungry? You state you've changed your eating habits. How much are you eating? (calories/protein)?

Great job on hitting that gym 6 days a week! Thats gonna pay off big time.

As far as Protein, if I tried to have a 54G Protein Drink all at once, I'd be sick to my stomach...about 35g is MAX for me at once. I'd suggest IF you are gonna use liquid Protein, to start at a small amount, maybe 20g max and work up as tolerated.

Best of luck! :)

Do you count calories? Do you measure your portions?

Also keep in mind the body can only process 30-35g of Protein at a time max. If you're eating more than that at a meal (like the 52g shake) you're still only really getting 30-35g of it and the rest is just flushed out. This is why it's important to have Protein at every meal, so you properly absorb it.

I'd weigh, log and journal everything you are consuming and take it to a nutritionist.

Have you lost inches? Clothes getting loose?

You could be off to a slow start. Don't get discouraged. The last thing a bandster needs is negative head thoughts.... Do everything your surgeon asks of you. Work out and follow the rules. If you're eating what you feel is too much, get a fill.

Slow and steady wins the race!!!!

I understand you being discouraged!!! Don't be!!! You have started exercising 6 days a week! That's phenomenal.

I was banded 4/8/12 pre-op diet 258. Date of surgery 248. Today with 1 fill 235. So I understand not a lot of weight loss but I hv lost a lot of inches... Clothes fit better and I feel better.

Don't focus on the pounds. My mom said just stay on track. Track your foods and calories. Get your Protein in. I've been working out 4-7 days in a week. I don't regret the band. I know I haven't had the weight loss desired and actually lost more after surgery but stay on track. Get with nutrionist and see what you can do to boost your metabolism. A lot of people have drastic losses that I was hoping for but this is a lifetime change. Stay focused and keep your determination!!!!

Good luck lady and stay encouraged!!!

Second what Cherishthepast said. Especially the above sentance.

Sounds like fills are the problem to me as well. Hope you work on getting in the green zone and keep us updated :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
