So today is the 3rd day( not including surgery day) since I got my band! I kinda just wanted to post something about my experience so far since I know most people on this thread are about to have their surgery very soon. The first day after surgery, I was just very very sore. It was Hard to get up and down, just a discomfort in your stomach. Try your best not to drop anything, because you won't be able to pick it up without some pain. A lot of people I know who have had the surgery recommend gas x strips. Thankfully, I haven't had to use mine much, but they come in handy to get rid of painful burps or hiccups. Overall it has been pretty easy, until today. Around noon I started to experience these horrible aches in my left shoulder. My friend who has a lap band had warned me about pain in your shoulder after surgery, and it is definitely painful. I found what works best for me is the Bio freeze roll on cooling gel. It worked within 5 min to get rid of all the pain. Now on a happier note, lol, after being on my liquid diet since Tuesday, I have already lost about 15lbs! I'm so excited for what's next! I hope some of the things I mentioned above will help you after surgery! Good luck everyone!! :)

Upper gi was the worst part because of having to drink that stuff. I told the radiologist it was the worst drinking game ever:) hope yours went well:)

Thank you so much for the great information Rgreen99! I bought my Milk of Magnesia, liquid Tylenol, Gas X, and chewable Vitamins today. I also bought one of those body pillows. I figured it might make sleeping a little more comfortable. Do you still have to sleep on your back?

  • Author

Yes I do, but I think I'm getting close to sleeping back on my side how I usually do! It's uncomfortable at first but you can do it! Lol

Rgreen99 Thanks for posting the update! It really helps to know what we may be in store for. I'm happy that all seems to be going well for you. Looking forward to hearing more from you. :)

Surgery date is June 14. Day 11 of pre-op diet. I'm dying to chew something!! Have lost about 11 lbs. Ready for the next step on this crazy journey.

I'm the 14th as well.... and dying to chew on something as well. I do just fine until I smell food... 6 more days to go.

Mine went well also, for some reason it made it all so real. Now it is countdown time, I am ready.

I didn't have to do an upper GI, thank goodness because at this point I probably would have puked with that stuff. Sorry you had to go through that.
