Ok I have the weirdest tip post-op: I only have 4 little incisions' date=' so my pain is totally from gas. I took 4 Gas-X, walk, walk some more, use the spirometer, etc and nothing. I'm 9 hrs after surgery and I felt sleep after taking my pain med (I was taking it every 4 hours because I was feeling really bad because the gas) so I woke up feeling that I needed to go to the bathroom number 2, but I was afraid that would hurt. Anyways, I pushed "that muscle" and it was not hurting, so I'm continue pushing And BAM! I started burping like crazy! I stayed 30 minutes like this and now my pain went down in half! (I couldn't go number 2 but definitely pushing helped a lot!)

Ps: sorry for the comment but I'm just excited to feel better! :D[/quote']

Hahaha!! Were we separated at birth?? Omg! Sounds like one of my many crazy off the wall stories. Not that I tell a lot of pooping stories but off the wall funny stories. BAM! It's the little things :-)

So glad you're feeling better-my surgery is the 28th. Ill remember this little "tip" :-)

Haha thank you GingerAnn! Today is day 5 after surgery and I'm feeling really good. I tried to go to work but I was kinda nauseous so I will stay home tomorrow :). I wanted to tell everybody at my office today that I've pooped after 5 days and it felt great!!! Haha, for real, it's being a long time since I was appreciating little things in life like now. My major happiness is burping, farting, going to the bathroom and feeling less pain, even when I laugh of my husband's jokes it hurts! But even though it has been a tuff process, I'm feeling really blessed and happy to start my new life. And I have no doubt that you will feel the same way in just a couple of weeks! Praying that everything will go smooth for you :)

My surgery is May 30. I had the edk and my surgeon found a hernia (he said when he bands me he will tack it down) I'm starting my post op tomorrow (he said I could start early to help myself). I live in Arkansas. Very excited and nervous. One of my four sisters doesn't support me getting banded so I told her I won't discuss it with her. NO NEGATIVE is allowed in my life for now on. One sister won't talk to me ( been years), one sister is excited for me and the other sister I didn't discuss it with her. They all live out of state away from me. I have no family around. I'm using this site for my support and my husband for my support.

My lap band coordinator was telling me about anchors and balloons. You have people that will be balloons in your life and lift you up and support you. Then there are anchors who will always discourage you by little comments like oh one cookie won't hurt, or you shouldn't loose anymore weight you are looking unhealthy. She said if you know about it up front you can be ready to respond to the anchors and stay strong. I know my sister is jealous about me getting the lap band. I really wish she would be excited for me and be part of the journey and maybe one day soon she can get it done also. We just have to remember the balloons and anchors and surround ourselves with balloons. :-) Good luck!!!

I had a tough time in the first week. Hang in there...I lost 14 lbs on the prep diet. It was so worth it!! The second week was much easier and I definitely didn't feel as hungry. You can do it!! I've lost 21 lbs already and was banded on tuesday.

Yea the first week is really hard but the second is s breeze. I was working out a lot so I lost 18lbs on the pre op diet. Enjoy it while you can the week after surgery is rough and you need to be prepared for that. I think the pre op diet really gets you conditioned to listening to your body and your hunger.

It will all be worth it in the end!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
