Does anyone wake up with a sore throat?

Recommended Posts

I noticed when I get up in the morning I have a slight sore throat. Is the band causing this?

It depends... I have sleep apnea so if I fall asleep and forget to put my mask on my snoring (that I don't even realize I do) or sleeping w/ my mouth open does that too...

I wake up every morning with a slight sore throat, pre & po banding.

I always start the day with a hot drink and that takes it away.

If you just had your surgery, it could be where the tube was down your throat. That happened 3 days post op and lasted for about a week.

I have chronic dry mouth and on bad days it causes my glands to swell.

The first thing I think of is reflux. Try sleeping with the head of the bed elevated (a couple of 2x4's will do the trick) and don't eat for at least 2 hours before you go to bed. If it continues, you may need an adjustment.

I was having this same problem for the last two months. I was pretty sure it was reflux. My doctor confirmed that it was reflux And wanted to do a small unfill. I said no because I can't even tell my band is there.

He did an upper GI and turns out I was so loose that my band wasn't even tight enough correct the problem.

Your band being tight won't prevent reflux. It will make it worse. I don't understand the expectation that the band being loose would correct it.

I am not a doctor so I can only relay what he said and what I took from it. I had reflux before surgery. I was told after surgery I should not have it. Having it could mean something with my band is not working. So from what I understand the band should correct the reflux problem. I never said the band being loose would correct the problem. The band being loose caused the reflux to just continue. I had a large fill about a week and a half ago and I haven't had any reflux problems. I am assuming when they filled my band since it was tighter (not too tight) it stopped the reflux.

Did you have a hiatal hernia repair when your band was placed? Having a band placed will not cure reflux but loosing weight FROM the band will, that's what I'm saying.

I'm not a doctor either, but I've suffered from reflux my entire adult life until my hiatal hernia was repaired when my band was placed.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
