is it typical to be charged a program fee ? dr 1 charges one $400 plus $100 for food. Dr 2 does not charge one.

My dr charged a program fee too that included 6 months of nutrionist and pyschologist visits plus 3 months of fills. I am not sure what the amount was now. I paid out of pocket for everything.

I wasn't charged for anything. I do have a $12 co-pay for Monthly Dr visits. I didn't know some Dr's were doing this. I am glad mine doesn't, I don't know if I could afford it.

I never heard of fees either but MA has wonderful health insurance laws thanks to when Romney was gov. That was the only thing he was good for. Sorry republicans. I pay a co-pay for the doctor and the dietitian is included. My support groups are free from the hospital.

Never heard of a fee either. Is that just a way for docs to milk you for more money?

I had to pay a program fee for all nut. visits, stay well for life classes and such. Insurance doesn't pay for that and I think Drs charge you to make sure you are serious about the program. They don"t want their whole staff working on your case and find out you were just fishing.

I agree 100%...just imagine how many people start this process and never go through with it.

I just paid a $200 program fee at my surgeon's office. It is a requirement to be paid by the Pre-Op consult. At his office, it covers a lot of the programs that are offered by his practice, such as support groups and game nights. These are things that are important to this practice, but aren't covered by insurance. I had looked into another hospital and they charged $350 program fee and you couldn't even start the journey until you had paid it.

yep my surgeon charged 1,000 for his program fee. But the nutritionist was seperate. It was to keep his monthly meetings going to pay rent for the building ect. But to me a little out of pocket is worth a new life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
