I think my band slipped

Recommended Posts

The last month or so I have been waking up coughing and sometimes having to throw up. I cant eat much and am forced back to almost all liquid. I am afraid my band may have slipped and dont want to get the Fluid out since I know I will definetly put weight back on. I have come to far to go back.

Question, a girl at my work was banded at the same place I was and said the same thing happened to her and they told her to back on liquids for about 2 weeks.

I have been reading on this forum that allot of people having similar symptoms bought otc meds for acid relfux and it helped.

Can anyone give me any advise, especially if you have suffered with the same thing.

I cant afford to go back right now for a barium swallow since Im not on the plan anymore and they charge $125. for the visit.

thank you all

I think that perhaps you can't afford not to go back. You could have something seriously wrong that could do more damage than you realize or even result in an ER visit and /or surgery to correct it if you don't have it checked now. At the very least you need to consult a medical professional who knows your history.

I agree. You could be putting your health and your band at risk. By not paying the $125 now, it could end up w/ hundreds/thousands later if there is something more serious going on. My surgeon's office bills me so I pay it over time. Not sure if yours would do the same.

At the very least, I would suggest calling your dr's office and explaining your symptoms and financial dillema and see what they have to say. We are not medical professionals, nor do we know your medical history. I don't mean to be harsh and mean this out of concern for you.

First, see your Dr.....

How long have you been banded? When was your last fill?

Are you eating / drinking anytime before going to bed?

A sign of a slipped band is when everything is status quo for quite some time, everything going well.....weight loss, good restriction and portion control.....can not be happier....

THEN right out of nowhere for no good reason you start having issues....

If your band slipped you would know because you would be constantly be throwing up. You need to call your doctor right now. You cant afford not too.

I was banded june 2011

Last fill was almost a year ago. I got stuck at a platue for about 6 months. I do eat or drink about a hour before bed but have cut that out now.

since this happened I have lost like 6 lbs in 2 weeks.

Everything was fine and I got the flu and strep throat and nothing has been the same since then.

thank you everyone for the responses

Hello everyone, I am post-op since September 2011 and I have had my first slip -- I went to the doctor yesterday and they unfilled my band totally and they assured me that the band should fit back into place in a few weeks and by being on a full liquid diet. I don't regret for a minute that I had lap band surgery I would do it all over again if I had to, having lap band surgery gave me my life back. I could never lose weight, I see this as a minor set back that's all. Since my surgery I have lost a total of 60 pounds - my goal is 95 pounds total loss so I don't have much to go, another 35 pounds.

I love the lap band because I am losing weight at a reasonable rate and for this slow rate my skin is not sagging at all.

When you have a slippage, you cannot drink or eat -- this is what I have experienced.

Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Thank you.

Rosa

Thank you Rosa

Wowee you did awsome, my surgery was June 2011 and I admit I did great at first then got into a platau and stuck at 50 lbs lost

Sinnce this has happened I have lost 6 more lbs.

I can eat soft musy foods and drink so maybe its not an actually slip

I did call True Results and to my surprise it's only $75.00 so I made an appt for next thurday to do a barium swallow and have it checked.

Im just upset that I have never had night coughs and wake up with acid reflux.

I cant eat much anymore, which is good, but the harder stuff is getting stuck.

Thank you for the reply

I am actually able to eat (soft mushy right now) and drink.

Yep, I had the exact same symptoms wasn't able to sleep without having to vomit in the middle of the night, last night was the first night I slept like a baby since last week.

Do you drink coffee? I forgot to ask my doctor last night if coffee was ok to drink and I do have my ice cream at night just a little because it is my weakness, but no solids, I guess I should go buy me some popsicles.. sugar free of course.. instead of eating the ice cream I could do sugar free fudgicle popsicles instead of the ice cream.

I will keep you posted on my two week full liquid diet and hopefully get a fill in two weeks.

Good luck to you.

Rosa

lol my downfall is ice cream too, but I stopped buying it for a while. Yes I drink coffee but I was thinking this morning I may cut back for now and just Decaf tea or even coffee for now.

Let me know how it goes and I will let you know what they say next week.

take care

Terri

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
