friend who has had wls now has the most repugnant breath. its unbearable!!

About a year ago a friend of mine had gastric bypass. She lost some weight and is doing well except for one issue: her breath

Guys its so bad that I can't even go with her into a car with the windows shut (in the cold winter) because there is no circulation of fresh air from her foul breath

When she comes near me to speak I have to bow my head downwards and turn away so I'm not facing her mouth. Its really insane...

I tried joking with her hoping she'd get the point by saying "oh boy what a smell! did you just eat a skunk for lunch or something?" But she just laughs and doesn't take me seriously...

The smell is so horrific that lately when she talks to me I have to either dash out and promise to call her later, or turn my back to her pretending to look for something behind me.

Is this a byproduct of her bypass surgery?? I don't recall it ever being like this

Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

You should tell her because it is probably GI related. She may need something like Prilosec or something. Please tell her and make sure she follows up with her surgeon.

Thanks guys!!

yah I gotta tell her but it's gonna be tough since she is super-sensitive

UGH

When I broke up with my bf a few months ago she surprised me the next morning with Breakfast in bed. She sat on my bed and started talking to me which made me SO uncomfortable and the smell was absolutely wretched. Everytime i tried looking away from her she said "stop being so ashamed of being single and LOOK ME IN THE FACE WHEN I TALK TO YOU, there is nothing to be ashamed of..." So I had to face her mouth while she yapped at me for like an hour about how much stronger I am now... blah blah...

OMG guys I thought I was gonna die right then and there :o :o :o

Oh my gosh this might sound horrible but that is hilarious!

It really sounds like a scene that could be in a comedy movie :)

Maybe she's not drinking enough water? Someone who would sit and talk to you for an hour after you broke up with your BF sounds like a friend. Now, be a friend back, and tell her the truth.

Omg...that made me laugh out loud!

Me too! Still giggling

so i told her...

She was absolutely stunned by the revelation

She said she was grateful and honestly didn't have a clue

Now let's see if she'll still want to be friends with me....

Was supremely uncomfortable, but I'm glad i did...

I know that must have been hard to do. I hope your friend doesn't acquire any hard feelings. I think you did the right thing though to save her future embarrassment.

Yah, I don't think I have ever done anything more awkward in my life...

I was super nice about it... but I still feel like a skunk

You did the right thing. It sounds like you have been pretty good friends for awhile and I think once the shock wears off she'll realize you were trying to help her.

OHH hon, you did the right thing, and just reading your comments on here I know you were gentle/kind expressing your concerns. I am certain she will continue on always being a friend to you, as you to her.,

((hugs)) You really deserved that!

My doctor tells me that the mouth is like the sea shore, when you keep it wet, it smells great, when the tide goes out, it reeks...she might need to drink more water. She also might need to floss...or go to the dentist.
