Preop Nurse Discouraging the Band

Recommended Posts

I just had to throw my 2 cents in here and tell you, though I am not your typical bandster...I was banded OCtober 10 of last year and as of today I have lost 85 lbs. So.....each case is different for everyone. I am so very thankful for my band. I am a military spouse and boy the ignorance runs rampant throughout the military medical community. I feel like I should start every conversation with, " Hi! I am Leigh Ann, before we go any further let me educate you on my lapband before you look at me like I have three heads! ". I feel your pain. Hang in there! Things are going to be great!

Don't let them get you down. I did over a year of research before I settled on the band. My doctor was very supportive. He has several bypass patients, but I am his first bandster and he is very impressed.

My band surgeon does both procedures and he chose the band for himself. That really spoke to me when I was making up my mind.

I've lost 90 pounds in a little less than 17 months.

I think you answered her very respectfully and appropriately. Good for you. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVerybody has thier own theory. Best someone like that to keep a neutral attitude.

good for you and good luck with your upcoming surgery.

I would be elated if for each of the last 3 years I lost 30 pounds.

30 +30 +30 = 90

I think that no matter how you are trying to lose weight, somebody out there thinks you're doing it the wrong way. You know what they say about opinions...

Hi Dana,

My surgery is also on Tuesday. I am excited and a little scared, but I know that I am making a great decision. I have been overweight my whole life, and for whatever reason I do not have all the tools I need to lose weight and keep it off, and the lapband is going to be the tool I need to get the weight off and keep it off. Please just stay positive and focused and you will be successful. Be proud of what you accomplish but don't be afraid to reach for more. You can do it!!

Best wishes!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
