Band Veterans: 1 Cup of Food Too Much?

Recommended Posts

Hey all you old school Bandlarians,

I'm one month out now. I can eat one cup of food at a sitting. Comfortably. Not feeling "stuffed".

Is this normal?

It is normal for me to eat at least a cup at a time. I just try to make the right choices. If I ate a cup of dry turkey I may PB. But, a cup of tuna salad goes down just fine. I have had one fill 1.1 cc's so far.

I am so glad that you are doing so much better Leener!!!! I am only 5 1/2 months out, not sure what is considered a veteran, but I was eating about 1 cup at a time at one month. It was enough, not starving or stuffed. It seems to be very much in the normal range from what I know.

One cup seems to be my norm. My doc told me that prior to that first fill, you'll be able to eat just about like you did pre-band but not to worry about it. They'll get you adjusted when the time is right - if you even need it. I was eating about a cup at a time but getting hungry every 3 hours, so I got a fill at 6 weeks. I still eat about a cup but only get hungry every 4 hours, and I'm losing an average of just under 3 pounds per week. I could get a fill to reduce my intake to 1/2 to 3/4 cup but why? I like not being too tight, being able to eat chicken and broccoli without fearing pb's. As long as I'm on track with the weightloss and I'm not hungry, I'm not going to worry about being able to eat a full cup (sometimes a bit more if I've waiting over 4 hours to eat).

leenerbups...you're doing good if you're only eating a cup. I am pretty much back where I was pre-band. I'm over a month out with no fill yet and I'm probably eating 2 cups. 1 cup just won't fill me up.

Just keep up the exercise and make good eating choices and the scales will still move!

I am 4 weeks post-op. I had to bump my meals up to 1 1/2 cups for lunch and dinner so I could cut the Snacks and get in my Water. My calorie intake today was 1000. I ate dinner at 5:30pm it is almost 8:00pm and I am still feeling full and satisfied. This time yesterday I had to have some more Protein at 8:00pm.

I get my first fill in 2 weeks.

I LOVE this question because you are over the hump, baby! You did it! You made it! And you didn't have to get your band removed and you aren't going to die of some wierd band problem and you don't have to sit around analyzing every little sensation and you can drink what you need to stay hydrated. You are a normal bandster! Yay Leener! Yup, I'd say you are right on track!

Thanks all. :-)

I was thinking that too, that I have come a long way!

The truth is, I'm still hungry. So I guess I will be needed a first fill after all MyBestMe.

I've put on a pound and a half this week because I'm eating more freuqently. I'm hungry now and the one cup isn't doing it anymore.

I don't want to gain the weight I lost back!

I've been on soft foods and today is the day i can start on solids if I want. I am wondering if that will help?

Yes. Try some mushy chicken or tuna salad with crackers. Small bites, chew well, see how that goes. And check the food Stages thread for more ideas. Moisture is the key.

And I like Jack's idea (when do I NOT?!) about letting your mind be okay with a cup of food. Get into the bandster portions mindset. It's helpful. I was so danged determined to "feel normal" about my eating (after being sooo tight) I didn't embrace the waaaaay smaller portions. Most times, a cup really is enough. With solids, though, 1/4 cup may do the trick. Start learning those hunger/satisfied signals...pay attention! You will learn alot.

Good luck and go get 'em! :Banane04:

Okie dokie my Bandy Guide! :-)

LMBO Just how did I manage to "acquire" you as my baby band sister, anyway?! LOL

Sometimes I feel as though I'm a nosey big sister attempting to lead and guide someone perfectly capable of handling things on her own...like I stalk you all over the board checking up on what you are doing and how...making sure it meets my approval or something...which is NOT the sense I want you to have!!! I hope I don't drive you nuts just because I helped you when you were scared post-op. If you hate what I say just ignore it, okay? And don't stay up too late, and be careful who your friends are, and don't drink and drive. :Banane04:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
