8 hours after fill and Im miserable.

Recommended Posts

I had my 3rd fill today putting me at 6cc's, Im not sure how much liquid my band holds. My doctor has a method of sticking the needle in the port and then making you sit up and chug Water while he fill the band, and when you almost spit water in his face he stops give you a pat on the back and send you on your way. He also did this the last time I had a fill too. so like the last time ive been not really able to keep any liquid down and i keep having to spit because i cant swallow my saliva. I talked to my doctor about this today and he said because the band makes you swell for a couple of days its normal to not be able to keep anything down until the swelling goes down and to sit tight. I there anything i should try to help this situation because im pretty misreable right now.

I don't mean this offensively in the least, nor do I claim to be an expert because I'm not a doctor. However, I cannot believe your surgeon actually intentionally fills you to the point you can't even swallow your own saliva let alone fluids. If you can't even swallow liquids, he's putting you at severe risk for dehydration, that puts a lot more at risk than just your band.

If you can't swallow fluids, you may have to go the ER to get IV fluids.

Again this is just me, but I'd speak up for yourself and tell him flat out you do not want to be that tight. It's your body and your band, take control over both and start demanding what you want (or in this case, don't want)

Best wishes.

I think it is odd that your not able to swallow your own saliva. I would think thats quite aggressive, however, every doctor is different! I've never heard of that method to fill a band! I get concerned when people are that uncomfortable and miserable with fills! How much did he put in today?

he put 1cc in, and after 2 days i could finally handle liquids and the soft food like pudding. After the swelling goes down im fine with it, im just tired of spitting up. It feels more like that slime feeling you get when food get stuck.

I agree with the above posts; it is a fine line to be in the Green Zone and not being able to have enough liquids to stay hydrated.

I have always found it very interesting that we all have a lap band and our surgeons do everything so different.

I have never heard of that approach! I agree with Missy to insist that you don't want it that tight if you cannot swallow your own saliva. That is ridiculous. If you are still this way in the a.m. I would call his office. I hate for you to go to the ER as they often will drain the band completely; however, if you are miserable then please don't wait.

I hope this passes quickly. The swelling will subside in a couple days but I you don't need it too tight unnecessarily. Just trust your instincts and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself.

I advised to do liquids for three days after fill...but if you can swallow liquid at all this is not safe. My surgeon has me drink to make sure I CAN get the liquid down.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
