January 2013 Bandsters Unite

Recommended Posts

hello everyone! i was banded on january 25th and have lost 21lbs so far since the pre-op diet :) recovery is going well.. gas pain all gone thank goodness and just began the mushies stage..... tonight for some reason i am in great pain on my left side....not where my port is but further back.. when i breathe in its a killer :( i am getting worked up on googling stuff to see what this could possibly be... so i decided to come on here and ask ya'll for your help before rushing to the emergency(my anxiety takes toll of me so im just trying to calm myself :( ) .... has anyone ever had this???

My guess is it could be gas still. I had pain in my side and in my back. For some reason the gas seems to effect the left side more than the right. At least I see more posts about pain on the left side.

Hope you get to feeling better.

Today I had my 2 week post op appointment and I'm down 24 pounds from pre op diet stage. I also started on mushed foods. I'm so full I think I need to really pay attention to portion size. This is such a big adjustment but I'm ready for the challenge.

I also had pains on my left side. I am one week post op. My Dr. Said it was nerve endings and that it will take a little time to get back to normal. Hope this helps.

Will I have to takes just sips of Water for the rest of my life with the band?

No! You will be able to take bigger sips, at least I do. I month out. You just can't gulp.

Thanks do you still have to space it like 1/2 minute apart? Just asking because this is frustrating and one of the annoying things I find I have to do.

I am about 2 and half weeks post-op and have no troubles drinking. I did not have a fill at the time of surgery.

wow one week out and I sort of feel normal again! The horrible hiccups that left me crippled over in pain are gone, I am pretty sure it was caused by hunger. I am pretty much eating/drinking something every few hours and can feel hunger (I do not have a fill in my band). Staples pull a little bit but not horrible and I didn't need meds to sleep last night. I am back to work Monday and I feel like it might be ok! Down 20lbs from pre-op at this point.

Still have gas pains here and there in my left shoulder but I'm used to it now. Starting to get hungry every once in a while but only when I go way too long without eating. I have to set alarms to remind me to have something small. Still working on getting enough Protein in. Going back to work next Wednesday so that will mark two weeks post op. Other then that, incisions are healing great. Had internal stiches and glue which the glue has come off all but my port incision. I can sleep on my port side and no real complaints.

I too have a strange pain in my left side and I do NOT think is gas. the only way I know to describe it is a "stitch" our cramp in my side like you sometimes get when you eat right before exercising? not too worried about it though.,, will ask my surgeon when I see him Monday.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
