I have my egd tomorrow to find out if have the hiatal hernia. If I do I'll get the band jan 25th. If I don't who knows when or if ill get banded. :(

Sooo nervous! Anyone else have the egd done for the hiatal hernia?

My surgeons office said most people have it so I probably do. Is it true that most obese people have it?

Hi there,

This is very common. I never had the Esophagogastroduodenoscopy but my surgeon told me it is extremely common to have a haital hernia and that he would repair it at no extra charge while he was inserting the lapband.

He did find a hiatal hernia and he repaired it. I never knew it!

GOOD LUCK!!

Yes very common, I also have a 2 cm one that will be reapired on friday my banding date. Ahhh getting nervous. The EGD is no big deal. I know were all nervous for any procedure. I was asleep for the whole thing. I had a sore throat for a few days. Good Luck.

I have seen many people comment about having one repaired during surgery and many that never knew they had one. I guess I was lucky, I didn't have one.

I hope all goes well for you!

I don't think so but I don't really know. It's just because ill be a self pay patient if they find I have a hiatal hernia then I insurance will pay for half of my surgery.

So I think it's just something my office is doing to try to get insurance to pay for some of the surgery.

I believe everyone gets it done. The Dr. needs to see whats goin on inside before surgery. I had to have a EGD, Stress test, Colonoscopy, sleep apnia test, blood test, the list goes on. But at least I know im healthy just fat. haha

I had to have blood work. I was already diagnosed with sleep apnea so I didn't need that one. I didn't have to have a colonoscopy either. I had a chest x-ray and a visit w/ the lung doctor to check my lung capacity as well as the visits w/ the pyschiatrist. It was all pretty harmless and every doctor and insurance is different.

I didn't need an EGD, colonoscopy, stress test or chest x-ray. I had to have blood work, PFT, ECG, clearance from my cardiologist, nutritional consult and psych eval.

I didn't had a egd all I had was bloodwork. I didn't even have to see a psychiatrist like most people do. I guess I got lucky there.

I just had blood work and an EKG. And no pre-op diet. Everyone and every dr is different.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
