NC Intro Thread...

Recommended Posts

I had to be there at 5:30am and I was home in Statesville @ about 2:00pm. Its best not to worry, because you will not get any sleep. I worried about my family, and what if something went wrong, but I remember getting prepped, and the next thing I remember was waking up. Be sure to wear loose comfortable clothing, you will be swollen. Also, make sure you have gas-ex strips, heating pad, and keep it moving as much as possible....

Dr. Bauman and his office are so nice!!!!!

I have just joined this forum. So here is a little about me.

I am 40 years old. Married now for almost 25 years now. I am a mom of a teen son.

Due to my weight I now have health problems, such as knee problems .. back problems and many more.

I have recently found out that Medicaid is finally paying for this surgery. I am very happy, yet very nervous at the same time. :( Because it has now become a reality.

Any input from anyone on what all I should ask would really be helpful.

Thanks

Hi all. I've been coming to this board for awhile but just discovered the NC one. I was banded Oct 1, 2007, I've lost 77 pounds. I'm now 60.My DH and I have lived in Jacksonville, NC for 3 years. Moved here after 23 years in Oregon. We have 3 children, ages 42, 39, and 39. We have 6 grandchildren (each of our children have 2), ages 19, 17, 15, 14, 13, and 11. They live in OR, AK and NC. My DH is going through all the insurance hoops to get lap band surgery. I had mine in MX, so no hoops for me. Glad he did though, because they have just discovered nodules on his left kidney, and we will be finding out what thet is about on the 14th. I have to get my fills at Fill Centers USA in Denver, NC. I love the fill doc, but wish I could find one closer. That's about it for me. My grandson spent the night and he just got up and is ready for Breakfast, so I better get a move on. Sundays is BLT morning at Gramma's. Even though the DH and I can't eat them any more!

Hello everyone! I've decided to have the lap band surgery probably in October or November of this year. I have found out that my health insurance will pay 90% of the cost. I've been "dieting" my way up to 267 lbs and I'm finally fed up. This is it.

I've already been to an information session and everything....this is the right thing for me to do. I just wanted to say "hello" and sort of introduce myself.

I am from NC. I'm 40 years old. I have 2 kids -- 19 and 9 and I've been dating a wonderful (supportive) guy for 1 1/2 years now.

I want to lose the weight for me. I'm tired of being tired....if that makes any sense? :-)

I look forward to hearing any feedback you may can share with me to sort of ease my nervousness about all this.

Welcome! I think you are entering a great stage in your life. I think the best statement anyone can make is that they want to do this for them. You have to want it or you will not be successful. :cool2:

I am in Charlotte and there are a lot of us that get together throughout the month and we have a monthly support group. (Not sure of your area but wanted to let you know.)

Welcome and I know you will not be sorry for starting your journey to a healthy happier you!!!!

I GOT A DATE!

Pending ins approval, which the coordinator nearly laughed at when I asked about it, I'll give it all a go on the 28th. They could have done it the 20th, but that's the week that school starts here at the U so I couldn't do it. Too bad...I'd have loved to get an earlier start.

hey all I'm looking into getting the band in the next 8 months..

I'm from Raleigh, NC.

I'm still looking for a good surgeon.

I'm looking into getting the RealizeBand at Pinehurst,NC by Dr. Kenneth Mitchell. But I'm unsure if that's the surgeon I would want to choose.

ooh, I am from Clyde.

If you are doing the surgery at Mission I hear Dr. Soozar is good. One of the 3 Drs there does not like doing the lap band. I was on another board and they said that they were going to do the lap band and it got to the date and the dr. was pushing them toward the gastric bypass

I just hope that doctor takes Tri Care insurance. I go tomorow to try to get a refural for a surgeon

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
