December 2012 --- Band Buddies Unite!

Recommended Posts

I tried everything dr oz has told his audience. I did not see a difference when I took the raspberry ketones. In fact after surgery I got rid of all the unnecessary vitamins! I am just listening to the doctors orders! He said to not weigh yourself everyday because it will make you go crazy! So I don't. Good luck to you .

You should give your friends a list of things you can eat so you will have something specifically for you at the party. Or just tell them not to bring the sweets, and have low fat Soups and other soft foods for everyone. I'm sure they'll comply. :)

Can you eat cheese on your mushy phase? ASk for cheese and crackers or just bring it yourself. Most people like that and you can stick to soft cheese.

Drink your 64 oz of Water b4 the party, have a mushy meal right b4 you go. I am less hungry on days I get all my water in and that plus a meal, you won't be as tempted if you aren't hungry.

Do your friends know about your surgery? If yes, then say please no cupcakes. If there are cupcakes etc. there, tell yourself if I eat junk I might feel sick and I don't want to be sick tonight.

thank you for your advice. i have only told two friends about my surgery. i wish my mushy food list from the (nut) was a little longer cause i'm sure somethings are ok for me to eat. as for cupcakes- i'll bring sugarfree Jello with fat free light cool whip. at least i can have that :)

Banded 12/7/12 I got my first fill yesterday. 4ccs and it wasn't pleasant. Hoping it gets better and each subsequent fill is much smoother. So far I lost 16 pounds and am feeling good. I also just took off the bandaid and realized dr removed a stuck that was popping through and didn't dissolve. All in all I'm feeling good and happy with the band. I definitely felt a difference today when I was able to go back to soft good after the liquids. I think I have some restriction.

Hi December Banders,

I had my band placed on 12/27 and all has been fairly good. The last few days I've been feeling chest pains. It seems to get worse when I'm hungry. It feels like a sharp pain that comes and goes. It helps to sip Water and then when I eat it does subside for awhile.

I'm still eating mainly mushies. I go tomorrow for my first fill.

Any suggestions? I've been SO paranoid that I might do something to cause my band to slip. I hate that constant worry.

I was banded 12/12, had my first fill on 1/7, so there is a total of 3cc's in there. Down 30lbs total from preop diet to now. I still get hungry though so I'm thinking I may need another fill, but the Dr. thinks I'm doing fine. IDK, just don't know what's good and what's not at this point. Started exercising, but still struggling with the meal planning itself. Just joined fitness pal, so hopefully that helps.

I have

I have also heard some comments of the easy way out... if this is the easy way out I have been fooled.. Changing your lifestyle completely is not easy. But the real point is I don't care what people think I did this for me and my life... any judgement on anybody's part is their problem.

And at least I will be around to enjow my life for a while more.

Life is not a reality show or a crititical point that I need to prove to anyone.... but myself.

Easy or not, this is the way I have chosen and am damn glad I have had some success at it. Tried other things before.... weight always came back.... time to change my life.... not somebody else's opinion.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
