Looking For Detailed Stories From Anyone Who Has Been To Mexico For Lapband With Dr. Alamaza

Recommended Posts

I was banded by dr almanza and had a great experience. I took my dad with me to feel safe. I agree with lining up a doctor for fills. I stayed at the hotel and it was very nice. I would do it again in a heart beat no regrets

I am another DR Almanza patient. Again...no problems here. I am a nurse so I went in after doing lots of research. There are certainly those on this forum who are negative of any Mexico surgery experience, but they weren't there were they? My surgery was 3200$ not including airfare. I was banded 6/12/12- and have had no problems with my aftercare. I arranged for it PRIOR to my travels. If you have any questions please feel free to message me.

Hi Dr. Almanza did my lap band over bypass in December, 2012. No regrets I hadn't first fill yesterday , I found a center here in Vegas, the only thing I can say is I would do it again. The staff was great and the dr. To, do keep me posted on your success.

I am also seriously looking at surgery with Dr. Almanza. I will be having lap-band over gastric bypass. Of course, my family is freaking out that I am going to Mexico to have this done and think something terrible is going to happen. I am grateful that this forum is available to read the positive stories. Is there anything special I need to know or take that hasn't already been explained?

It's fine in Mexico. You don't have enough time to go looking for trouble, and the hospital and hotel and shuttle are all very safe. Bring one person for support if you want, but it's not necessary. Everyone having surgery is very nice and supportive too. You don't need a lot of extra cash. The check-list it's all you need. I wish I had remembered my swimsuit for the night before surgery. There was a pool and hot tub at my hotel. I had surgery 3 weeks ago, I had some pretty awful nausea, but I'm feeling much better now, and losing weight.

Before getting banded in Mexico, it's imperative you do two things

-Find out what size band they are going to use. Too often they are still using the old 4cc band in Mexico. It's been discontinued in the US and Europe because of the very high complication rate but unfortunately in Mexico it's still used to keep costs down because they can buy them cheap. Make sure you are NOT getting an old 4cc band.

-Make sure you have a local surgeon to treat and fill you before you get the surgery. Very often this is a major problem because a lot of surgeons won't touch a patient banded in Mexico. Some will and do, but it's very important you have one lined up before you get the surgery.

I was banded twice with Dr Ortiz. Once in Oct 2008 and again this past Dec. He is the only doctor I trusted to re-band me. And I have a fill doctor here in Atlanta who totally respects Dr Ortiz. I had a great experience both times.

mylapbandjourney.ning.com

I tell a full story with many pics.

ugh I cant find your story. I'm scared not about going but about how it will be after. I will follow the diet they gave me and I have a doc here to do fills is there anything else I should know or what I should do to prep myself. I go 9/3/13 and have to be on the per op diet for 3 day before surgery. if you get there and get your blood work finished is there anything else to do other then sit in the hotel and count down the minutes and seconds till your wheeled into the OR. thank you for any and all info.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
