Post Op November Bansters

So I was banded on Nov 1, and I have had a rough go of it. They put me on morphine after the surgery that made me sick. My surgery was over around 10:45 and I must of vomited for the rest of the day and into the night. They ended up switching me to a different pain medication, but because I was getttin sick I wasn't getting up. Not to mention that I pissed my self each time I vomited. Had to have DH get me some depends as the diapers the hospital provided sucked. The new pain medication came aroun 1 am but they took it away at 6 am. I ended up having to stay another day. I stopped vomiting around the 6 am wakup. I don't know how they expect you to get any sleep as they wake you up contantly. Ended up having to have two insulin shots. Didn't touch any of the meals they gave me. On Sat morning around 2 I vomited once again, but that was the last time.

Since I've been home I moved my self to the recliner because the flat bed was causing me to wease. I have been using the aspirator and walking 4 times a day, one extra driveway at a time.

To top it all off I started my period on Monday. So I know I'm anemic. Doc told me if I stated experiencing flu like symtoms that ment I wasn't getting enough Water in. Had a low grade fever yesterday so I have upped my liquid intake.

But I'm getting gas, not sure if its left over from the vomiting or just from the protien shakes. And I'm contsitpated. I'm sure thats from not getting enough water also.

I am taking my Vitamins and Iron. And I feel better after I have stood up and walked. Streaching out those sore stomach muscles.

This whole thing is scaring me now. I didn't expect any of this. I expected the pain etc but not the immediate vomiting and what has trasnpired since then.

Any suggestions on the gas. May be so kids liquid gas x or some gas x strips?

I was banded on the 2nd. Stayed over Friday night, since I do not wake up well from anethesia. Had oral pain meds (vicodyn) and 1 intravenous pain med (Toradol). Went home the next day around noon. Today is day 5 post op and my first day back to work. I'm glad to be up and out of the house, but really looking forward to getting home and laying down.

I'm eating 3 shakes a day, plus had a Chobani yogurt yesterday and today. Today is the first day I am actually feeling hungry. Could be because I wrecked my morning shake by trying to add my hot coffee to it. NOT A GOOD IDEA!! Like the canister says, adding to hot liquid alters the state of the Protein. It was like crumbly hard cement, not pleasant.

Looking forward to gettin gout to walk this weekend!

Was banded on the 5th and more or less so far so good. Having some gas pains but walking really helps. I'm also having trouble getting in all the water and protein...seems like there's not enough hours in the day...

I was banded on the 2nd as well. I have really bad left shoulder pain from all the gas. I've tried walking and gas strips, not seem to be helping. Hope this goes away soon. Good luck friends!!

I had pain in the upper left shoulder area....they said it would be from the hernia repair.....that the trauma from hernia repair goes upward. It has subsided mow but was extremely painful. I was banded on Oct. 26 and im down 20 lbs as of today....i dont get my first fill until the 27th. Ive been hungry.....the gas has beem horrible but gasx strips are amazing.

Banded this past Monday November 5th. Still sore but doing so much better today. Lots of gas but using GasX strips and walking. Starting to want more than cold shakes and broth now. Went to lunch today with my wife and boys. Ordered water, unsweetened ice tea and Italian Wedding soup. Asked waitress for pretty much just broth and she said no problem. It came with some stuff in it but I just ate the broth with an occasional mushy carrot on the spoon. Waitress asked if I needed more broth and I was good with what I already had. Starting to feel somewhat normal again. Going for my follow up on Monday and should start pureed phase. So far so good! Even skipped a hole on my belt today so that made me feel good too.

So your dr allowed you to have regular soup on your first week. I was banded Monday also this week Clear liquids. Had apple juice and it was amazing

Yes!! Broth, strained non cream soup, and similar stuff. And thankfully I have been doing great without any issues. Keeping up my protein shakes and fluids and so far so good. Even was allowed fish and chicken, and veggies on my pre - op diet. I have found every surgeon is a little different in what works for their patients. All with the stipulations of what an individual can tolerate. So far I don't have any complaints except for some soreness which is getting better every day.

Hey guys. I got banded on the 6th of November. It's been easy so far except for the morphine which I have a high tolerance to so I was out on Dilladed for a while. Anyways I suffered a severe migraine which made me vomit (nothing really) and was put on caffeine later to help. Anyways I'm home now. I am a belly sleeper but sleeping on side is easy to do. Question. First, I notice as I'm falling asleep my body tenses like jolts almost kinda like I'm contacting my abs I wake up and release. Anyone having that too? Also, I didn't eat the 2 days I' was at the hospital. What can I eat? How do I know If I'm eating too much. I feel like I'm going to over eat.

Didn't have the tenseness doesn't sound like fun. Did your dr or nutritionist give you a diet to follow post-op? For most people it's clear liquids and Protein shakes.

Still sore but copeing i was only on liquids for a day post op now on mushies but small portions but im soooo hungry!!!! I have shoulder pain 2 but the worst is the 3 incisions on right side especially when trying to get up!!!!

Hey Karen. Yes I'm on same full liquids I just have no appetite to eat. I think the shaking happens because I'm so tired. Similar to restless leg syndrome. Just pain when I burp really and incision pain.

The jolts are probably a side effect of the pain meds. Didn't the surgeon give you diet instructions?

My doc said straw diet, anything that can fit easily threw a straw, but not allowed to use the straw. A minimum of 64 oz of fluid a day perferably more and to get up and get walking. All the sf popsicles and all the sF jellow I want.

Ok my complaint of the day. I still haven't had a bowel movement.

Adding benefiber, Nurse told me to take a Ducalox (sp) suppository.

So I inserted on at 4:30. aroun 5:30 tried but it was clear, not the color you expect, but I have only been doing Clear liquids for the most part.

Anyway was not the relief I needed.

Get to try again at 9:30.

Still having pain in my left shoulder. I have only had around 5 hours asleep, but oddly I feel better than I did yesterday.

Had 12 oz of Water, with 1 scoop of musclemilk like vanilla, and mixed in Dannon vanillia greek yogart. Can't eat the yogart by itself as its to thick but if I water it down with water and muscle milk helps me get in some fluids an switch up the taste and protien.
