I really wouldn't worry...the surgery did a lot of poking around inside you plus you probably still have a bit of gas inside...I really bruise easily and was covered all over abdomen afterwards with bruises and not just around incisions. They stayed tender for over a month and turned a lovely purple, yellow, green! Relax and HEAL. If you are still concerned tomorrow or few days call your doctor. By the way I'm five months post op and my port area is still tender and uncomfortable if panty elastic is over it. I wish mine had been placed a bit higher, but so far the band is a great tool.

Interesting how all surgeons are different. My port site is painful since it is just below my bra band. And I am a 38dd, so talk about friction!!!!

Ask your doctors office' date=' but I pulled mine off two days after surgery so I could shower. I was told that if incisions were closed up, no harm. I was sent home from overnight stay in hospital, with anti-bacterial liquid soap... Weren't you??[/quote']

no soap was sent home with me..I was at the clinic for a total of 4 hours including surgery i am still using the Hibiclens soap I had to clean with b4 surgery

...

I was banded the 7th. I was losing a pound a day it seemed and now as I introduce solids no weightloss. I'm down almost 18 lbs total. Should I be worried? I've always been good at losig 5-10 lbs then that's all! Gonna have my 1st fill in Jan. Just feeling discouraged..its been 5 days and no weight change.

From what I have read, you are experiencing a typical response.

Try, I know it's hard, not to get down. The loss will begin again

question.. i had my surgery 12/14 and my bandage are puling off.. is it ok ok to just remove them or should i wait?

I was told to leave them on untilled it started to come off by itself.. and it was OK to remove it.

Hi everyone!... Surgery went great...i am only a little sore...The worst part of all of this is the being checked on every 69 minutes...but if that is the worst it gets I am happy!....Hope you all are doing great and thanks for all the support and sharing your experiances. It made me more prepared for this choice and procedure!

I was banded on 12/20, and am still in a lot of pain. Not sure if I over did and am paying the price, or this is how it goes. Maybe I just don't have a high threshold for pain...

I was 12/20 also and I ran out of pain meds on Christmas Day. I have thought about calling for a refill but just keep thinking I'm being a wimp. Ibuprofen is just making my stomach crampy (which is bad on top of an already sore abdomen!) You are not alone.

Hi, my name is Aly and I was banded on 12/4. I just thought i would come back before I move out to the post op forums and post a few things that you may experience post surgery that are absolutely part of the healing process.

Port pain is normal and can last upto one month. You can reduce the shart pains by holding your belly in that area when moving around. You will probably be able to sleep on your side after day 11 or 12.

Gas pains are ormal and should subside by days 8 to 10, but it could be a lot worse! The ore you walk the less pain you will have. I took cruched Percocet for 7 days every 4-6 hrs. Do ot take pills whole even if others tell you it's ok! A stuck episode is painful.

Please do not eat mushies until after the third week.. You may Think you know your body, but you really don't know how bad it is until you experience it! I did, and I filled up with gas worse than after the surgery and the cramping wasso bad I almost went to the ER.

Take small sips at first. But drink, dont worry about losing weiight during the healing process, many do, but many don't. It is normal to not lose weight while healing. Do not exercise, lift or bend so that you will not herniate sutures. You will only have to have surgery again to repair them.

Whatever you do, bbut Miralax and start aking it in your crystal light after the surgery. Pain meds make you constipated and many of us wind up in the hospital with impaction. You can easily avoid this using the Miralax at least every other day.

I hope this information is helpful for someone. Besides the bit of pain and discomfort, you will find that it was well worth it! The best is yet to come and nskinny days are aheaad, have fun and don't be scared. Everything will be ok"

Hey all - thanks for posting your experiences. It's amazing to be able to understand exactly what I'm getting into through your posts.

Earlier today I got my 9 AM appointment time for the 31st and am excited but getting a little nervous... probably shouldn't have watched a band surgery video online :)

Like many of the other Houston bandsters, had a two week 2 Protein shakes/1 meal per day preop diet through the holidays. I didn't tell anyone, so my mom - whom I only half-jokingly refer to as "the pusher" - has been trying to ply me with all my favorite Christmas candies. Thankfully, still down 19.6 lbs so far with three more days to go.

It's been an interesting journey to get this far, but looking forward to starting the new year by taking this much needed step towards long-term weight control.

Best wishes for all of you - I'm looking forward to seeing photos of how well we are all progressing in 2013!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
