Ive been approved for surgery and will have the band put in 10/2 due to work commitments. My surgeon said that he puts 4-5ccs in the day he does the surgery. Has anyone else been filled right away? What was your experience like?

My band was empty after surgery. People who have a fill at the time of surgery have to be very diligent with their diets. The last thing you want to do in the first days after being banded is throw up!!!

Mine was empty until my 6 wk check up. The dr said he wanted my body to adjust and time for swelling to go down before he filled me. When I was filled he only put in 3cc but it was too much n had to take out 2 cc so I've only got 1 in. It's good restriction right now. I go back on July 27 foe 2nd fill. My band was giving me restriction when it was empty. in saying that everyone is different n experience different things doctors usually decide by the person. but good luck n hope all goes well.

Thank you for the replies. I'm worried about such a drastic change overnight. I'm certainly addicted to food and use it as comfort when I'm stressed. I need to use this time to find another way to cope with stress. I do know my doctor has done over 1500 bands and has only had two people with minor issues. I also got to meet some of his patients in person at the meeting I had to attend to start the process. I'm so ready for this!!!

I had a fill during surgery, but not that much. I believe it was only about 1.5 cc. I'm only at 5.5 cc now, so to me that seems like a lot. But I'm sure your doctor knows what he's doing!

I was just banded 6/26 and went to my post op appointment today I asked him if my band was empty and he said you have to put some in the band to make sure there is no air bubbles he said its usually 1-4cc

I had a fill during surgery. A pretty good one! They told me I had 3.6 CC's already. I asked if that was normal and she said my doctor usually does this. I had surgery 3/8 and haven't had a fill since surgery and have lost 60 pounds! Pretty happy with it and i ended up adjusting to an already restricted band so it helped me learn fast how to slow down. Hope this helps :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
