First Week Post-Op Major Pains

Recommended Posts

Surgery was 6-28-12 and i had lapband and a hiatal hernia fixed. I have had almost unbearable pain in my chest, throat, jaw, and even head. Went to dr today and she said all looked ok. She said pain maybe from the scope/tube. The pressure is one ive never experienced and no matter the meds, there is little relief. Any suggestions? I'm taking pain meds as much as i can.

U might find a heat pad soothing, but everyone recovers differently, i was almost pain free from waking up after surgery, just a alittle discomfort from gas, but i find warmth does soothe things so wont hurt to try it. Otherwise its just a case of being patient till u get more healed ..

I also just had surgery on June 25th. I battled some really bad gas pains this past week. I chewed a A LOT of Gas X and I loved my microwavable heating pad. Walking also really helps. I've been doing lots of walking (an hour around Wal Mart), a visit to Target, the grocery store. It all counts and helps to move the gas out. It will get better once the gas subsides.

This pain is different than the gas pain i felt on days 1-2. But thank you for your reply. :)

im afraid there are no magic quick fixes... use a heating pad, keep up the meds and most of all... just relax and give your body the time it needs to heal. ive been there... there is no short cut im afraid.

I had horrible pain too. I had surgery 6/14. I still get pain at least daily depending on how hungry I am, what I ate, if I ate too much, overdid it physically, etc. just hang in there. It gets better. And keep an eye in this site. There were times I thought I was dying or that something horrible had happened...I would get on here and find tht whatever I was feeling was fairly normal. Of course, if it doesn't pass or ease up, call your dr. As others have said, everyone is different.

sweetheart, you just had major surgery. you have to take care of yourself and rest. take your pain ,meds, relax. use a heating pad, take a hot shower.............but if pain is a 9 or 10, call your dr for help.

I'm getting worse each day rather than better! Today ive only been able to drink half a Protein Shake and a small Gatorade. Ive been nauseas and dry heaving for the past hour and still am in so much pain, especially in my esophagus!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
