April 2006 Bandits

Recommended Posts

I'm home, too. Had the surgery yesterday. All went well. Hardly any pain and was walking around very well right after surgery. After two c-sections and a gall bladder removal, this was a breeze.

Looking forward to a new, healthier life.

Love to all,

Dana

Hi all, I'm happy to be at home now and hear about you.

Well, all this experience has been very hard to me. My surgeon found a hernia and repared it and put my band at the same time.

Now I have pain in my chest and my left shoulder when I breath, a lot of gases, weaknees and I have lost 20 pounds in one week (I´m happy for this)

I were depress but now I´m better, the pain is less and I feel better day by day.

Good look to everyone and we are in touch.

Reyna:bump2: :bump2:

Welcome home Dana. I sure hope I do as well as you.

Reyna: It's a good thing you had the band put in. You got rid of a hernia which was bound to give you trouble at some point. 20#s in one week, woo mama!!!! Outstanding job.

Ceparano...I'm just a few days after you and can't believe the date is so close. I'm also feeling the pressure, but am starting to feel pretty good. I went through a couple of rough days last week where I was emotional and a bit freaked out, but now I'm just ready. I had my pre-op testing today and it's just a matter of days now. Good luck to you, I'm sure you will do great, and just think of the great thing we are doing for ourselves!

Thank you all :D) I go in tomorrow for the CT and will know if I have to have an MRI next week. My pcp was really great catching some symptoms that could have been a disaster - too bad my previous pcp was too self involved to find this 2 years ago with my kidney.

I am SOOOO envious of you April Bandsters! April 21 - tomorrow was to be my original date, just cant wait for May 26th now :(

Glad all of you are doing so good, please keep posting updates since I got to know some of you in the last few months.

I never got round to finishing telling the anaethetist about my house decorations hehehe
when I had surgery last year, my m-i-l said I could not stop grinning and said something about my dreamy surgeron OMG I died of embarrassment, just hope I don't do that with Dr. Ortiz :D

Bostongurl, your right we are doing something great for ourselves, and I am so ready to get this show on the road.

Lisa: I know what you mean about the wait. Originally I was to be banded on 4/17, but my surgeon went on vacation.(how selfish of him :-) So here I am 3 days away from Monday!!!! I promise you once it's May 1st you will be surprised how fast time will start to go. It's good in a way , it gives you time to get yourself well. The incident with your MIL was hilarious.

You'll always be an April Bandit to us, so keep your little family here posted as to your progress.

Roberta

Yoda You'll do GREAT!

Ceprano you are so close! You will do great too!

Amourette, DO NOT DRINK FROM A STRAW!!! Drinking from a straw allows way too much air to get into your tummy it will increase the gas...which will increase the pain. Only sip from a spoon. I have done this and taken Gas X and chewed a Tums several times everyday and I haven't had any gas pains (knock on wood). I blend up my favorite Soups and of course the good 'ol Protein Shakes and seem to be doing well. There is a lot of gurrgling but it is not painful. I guess you could blend up anything that you wanted...I have just kept it to Soup and shakes. My port sight does hurt to get up and down. But overall I am doing good...even walked the block today.

Hooray for the rest of the April Bandits! Were almost all the way home!!!

Hi all, i am going in tomorrow and have been crying all morning - sigh - how silly. I am feeling very freaked out. Can't understand why even. My family is supportive, though they have no idea why i would want to do this. My DH is ignoring the fact and hoping it will go away when he's not looking.

I just want this to be over now...

Hey Alison,

It's ok to be freaked out...I am as well and I still have a few more days to go. Don't worry about it. Best case senario.....you loose all the weight you want and become a hot babe. Worst case, you don't lose any weight. Don't worry to much about complications. My husbands uncle (who is a doctor) told me this surgery has 2 on their scale of complicated surgeries. Which means .2% in ever 100 people have some sort of complication. Thats a really low margin, so try to think of it that way.

We're all behind ya here! Good luck.

Hi, all!

Three days out and feeling pretty good--thanks to my Lortab Syrup. :Banane56: I haven't eaten anything of consequence in six days (just Clear Liquids with little calories), and I feel ok, but I'm a little upset about weight. Day of surgery, I weighed 260.5. Now, I weigh 268. I'm sure it's from all the swelling and IV fluids, etc., but it sure sucks to not have any calories for six days, and then gain 7.5lbs. Did this happen to you?

Well, anyway, onward I go, not giving up EVER. I'm done being obese.

Hope everyone is well, and for those who've yet to be banded, hang in there. This is the greatest thing you will do for yourself.

Love to all--

I was banded on April 17th. I am doing great. I am at work today so.. I guess that's good. I have lost 10 pounds in about 5 days. I figure when I can eat the mushies I might gain some back. I have been on clear liquids for a week now. I am still pretty bloated in my stomach but maybe it will go down soon. I think the 10 lbs came out of my boobs! YEAH!!!! maybe it's just me but they look alot more saggy than they did last week. Oh well, I don't care. That is what great bras are for. :Banane56:

I am so excited, I can't wait for 6 months to pass.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
