That's great... You must be really excited! I'm happy for you... It feels so good to know it's going to happen for sure... I know you probably had to do alot of work to be accepted by insurance (from what I hear)...keep us posted! Just 29 days! yay!

I'm hoping to have surgery in August. My last appointment for supervised diet and exercise is July 19th. That is all the surgeons office is waiting on to submit for insurance approval! Fingers crossed that Everything goes as planned!

Hey Puppyhat, We're 'twins'! I'm the 13th also. Had my pre-op appointment last Thursday, made my pre-op appointment with my primary, and now the countdown begins. My doc has me starting my diet on the 3rd. I've decided to joint my husband on his beach vacation for the week before surgery, I figure I can go for long beach walks while they eat dinner! :)

Is everyone else bursting with excitement or are doubts setting in. My surgeon said it was my voice between the band and the sleeve and after considering the pros and cons for each, I picked the band. However, with so much time between the decision and the surgery, I keep wondering if I should have gone the other way. I just wish 13th of august would hurry up so I don't have to worry about being indecisive.

I've been doing the very same thing, but my decision was fueled by the fact that with the band you have control of the restriction you have, I just didn't like the idea of 80percent of my stomache being gone forever. While the band has a lot of after care involved, I just had a gut feeling that it was the best choice...It's not because it costs less either because in the long run it ends up costing more...If you picked the band, it might mean that this is what your gut feeling choice is. But, it's up to you totally. Whatever you think will be the best for YOU is what's important...Good luck either way.. Did you join the August Bandsters group? Please do if you like...

I had my 5th weigh in on 15 of June, and have had my first pre-op visit with surgeon on the 25th. Last scheduled supervised visit on the 19 of July. Cannot wait to start my pre-op test that means I am almost there. Stay in touch with me, thanks.

Last week was my 5th appointment of my insurance required 6 month supervised diet! It went by really fast after having all the required testing! I was required to have an upper GI' date=' pelvic ultrasound, chest xray, echocardiogram, ekg, nuclear stress test, home and lab sleep study, pulmonary function test, abdominal ultrasound, two nutrition consults, 2 psychiatry visits, pulmonary consult and a cardiology consult! Wow! It made the time fly by and now I am just waiting for my July 2nd pre-op visit and my surgery is scheduled for August 1st! My pre op diet starts July 18th and I will be on the Optifast program. It will consist of shakes, bars and Soups, 6 times a day. My birthday is August 17th so I will probably just be starting mushies but this will be the best gift I can give myself! I can't wait to be banded! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> Is anyone else scheduled for August?[/quote']

Good luck!

I'm hoping for late August... I have 2 appointments left with the nutritionist, 1 on the 17th of this month, and the next is August 7. Health New England should take no more than a week for approval, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! When did everyone notify their employer of surgery? I'm planning on taking 2 weeks to adjust to my new diet, one will be vacation time, and the other will be sick time (we have a bank that goes toward short term illness, maternity leave, etc), I just have no idea if I should wait for a surgery date or if I should give them a heads up first. So glad to have found this forum!

I notified my employer last month as we are required to give 30 days notice for a foreseeable absence but I knew my surgery date. My absence is covered by sick time and I had to fill out FMLA paperwork. I am going to be out Aug 1st - 20th. Maybe you could give them a heads up so it doesn't seem so last minute. They will at least have it on their radar until you give them a confirmed date.

I also had to give 30 days notice, i'm only taking 8 days off after the surgery, I can delegate lifting jobs to nursing assistants at work for sometime.( I'm a nurse). I plan to just get back into the swing of things. Hope I can, I usually bounce right back from things... I've never had a choice not to though...We have a group for August Bandsters if you're interested.. Please join..Good luck to you...

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
