Insurance Question

Recommended Posts

Is there an insurance agency that will cover you if something wrong happens to your lap band? Say for instance...slip, erosion, infection, or anything that needs to be adjusted. I payed out of pocket for my surgery, and I really don't want to pay more for something that didn't even work for me.

Are you in Canada, or the US, or somewhere else?

Didn't you just have surgery? How do you know it hasn't worked?

Most insurance companies don't want to cover pre existing problems, and if they do then there is a waiting period. My insurance company has a year waiting period. Just wondering why you think it hasn't worked? I believe alot of people believed that it was a miracle cure but didn't realize that you have to change your eating habits and exercising and even without the band weight can be lost that way. I wish you luck.

If you already have a band, then most likely IF there is an emergency or something needs to happen with it your insurance should cover it. Do you have a plan now? Keep up insurance if you do and make sure that it doesn't lapse, I think generally if you have been covered on a constant basis then the pre exisiting thing is waved.

Worst case if you do not have insurance and have a major issue you can go into a county facility or.. if you go to the ER then they need to stabilize you... but like was mentioned.. don't think negative your profile says you just had it put in and your on an adjustment period.

No no... I'm saying in case is doesn't work for me or something happens to it. I'm wondering if insurance will cover to have it removed or whatever needs to be done. I am in the us and currently we have crappy military coverage. So my husband is getting out in 9 months and we will have to get new medical coverage. I'm wondering which insurance agencies will take care of me if I need something done or fixed that pertains to my lapband.

Most companies will probably require a year period to add you due to the surgery. If you or the husband is employed by a company that offers insurance with bariatric coverage, it would hopefully be effective immediately...

That's what I'm trying to find... Insurance agencies who cover bariatric complications

I'd start calling around and asking. Just call sales and ask if they cover pre-existing bariatric WLS treatment.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
