I have gained like 90lbs in the past 2 1/2yrs. I go up and I go down in weight, you know, the yo-yo. So that is why I am electing to have lap band surgery. I know I am overweight & I know that right about now I don't look my best because I don'f feel my best! Why did my Grandmother go on about how I need to lose weight and all I have to do is eat off of a bread and butter plate! Huh! Oh and find a hobby! I told her as politely as I could that I am aware of my weight and that I have elected to have the lap band surgery. She told me I don't need that I just need to stop being so stressed and eat smaller portions. Ok, if it was that simple there would be no WLS options because all the world need to do is eat off of a bread and butter plate and not be so stressed. Oh and get a hobby. lol I have to laugh it off because if I don't I'd be more pissed than I am now. It's not what she said but more so how she was saying it. Like I'm not aware of my obesity & that it's so simple & I'm not focused. She said that the devil has tricked me into thinking I need the surgery and all I need to do is pray to God and don't keep an idle mind. Blah Blah Blah. I told her I hear what you are saying but I'm having the surgery because I FEEL IT IS THE BEST SOLUTION FOR ME! I AM WHO MATTER WHEN I MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT ME! I was so pissed off    . I am not telling another person about my decision, people talk about you in your face and behind your back and to me, it's the DEVIL that is working against me bettering myself the BEST way that I know how.

On another note, I have went to the nutritionist today, I have a few more appointments to go. Thanks for allowing me to vent.

I'm sorry to hear that your Grandmother is so negative about WLS. More than likely it is due to her lack of knowledge about the procedure and how it works. Or she may be genuinely fearful of you having surgery but doesn't know any other way to express this.

If you have fully researched the band and have decided that it is the best option for you, then you need to go for it. Just make sure that you have someone who can be a great support for you.

My husband has been an awesome support for me throughout my journey and I truly believe that I would have been less successful without such support.

Good luck.

That is the exact reason I only told 5 people, my husband, my son & daughter-in-law (I would never have any surgery with out tell them), my sister and my friend. I don't have people at work watching me because they don't know, the ones I eat lunch with think I am on a Protein diet. Which I am!

People just do not understand what it is like to be 100 lbs over weight.

It is easy for them because they have never been there.

I hope you find some good support, my husband has been behind me all the way.

Don't get to upset with Granny, she is from the old school and just does not understand.

Good luck on your journey, it looks like you're going right down that to do list. :)

Hang in there! Tour story mirrors most of my relationship with my mom. It didn't make me love her less but man. It made steam pour out of my ears for most of my life!

I chalked it up to her being entitled to her opinions and I didn't have to try to engage in disagreeing with her. It took a ton of patience and lots of trips to DQ. Glad I have found better coping skills.

I only told 2 or 3 people about my surgery because I didn't want to hear from the "experts" on what I should do!!! Do it for you and eating off a bread and butter plate is actually a good way to get prepared for after surgery!!!

I love my Grandma and I know she mean well but I don't want to hear anything negative when it come to my decision to have this procedure. If she and anyone else that has negative comments could walk a day or two in our shoes they would get an understanding of how important it is for me to have it. Thank everyone for the encouraging words it really helps me. I love this forum and without if I may have changed my mind. :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
