What do husbands think

Recommended Posts

I was very leary of consulting with my husband but I did all the research first and printed it out for him to read. After being married for almost 9 years and he seeing me get up 5 to 6 morning a week to go to the gym it was somewhat refreshing for him. He was so supportive and we even self paid. He couldn't get off to go with me to Mexico so I had to tell my immediate family and they were not happy but my mom said she would support me and go with me. I was greatful for her support cause she means the world to me.

My man is the greatest and still is even in the process.

I'd like to hear the reverse; what do guy's wives things when you tell them you are going for surgery?? I'm curious to know if our 'better halves' react differently.

So come on banded gentlemen, share!

My husband was supportive of the surgery. I was looking in to gastric a couple of years ago and he was totally against that but when I told him about lapband and he read all the info then he was ok with it. He is insecure now that I have lost weight though. Doesn't help that he is 15 years older than me, and I am on the road to thinner and healthier. Think he is affraid I will leave him for another man.

I was definately one of the lucky ones. My husband actually knew someone who was considering lap band surgery and asked me what I knew of it.... At the time I knew nothing, but after a little research... I asked him how he felt about me having the surgery. His response was perfect.. I would never keep you from doing something you really want to do. We researched it together.. traveled to TJ together and the rest is history. Of course... I am only one month out and I haven't lost any weight... so I feel a little like a big dissappointment to him that he has spent so much money with no results (my words). Regardless he has been nothing but the best about the whole procedure!!!! I did not tell my mom and dad until after I had the procedure done.... My mother did not take it well... however she now understands .....but she still would have preferred for me to do it the impossible way!

My hubby was leary at first but after researching was all for it. He's very supportive. Now maybe we won't look like such an odd couple when out together, his skinny little self & my not-as-fat-anymore self!!

When I first started researching the band I mentioned it to Dh and the first initial reaction was "NO". As the months went by and I talked to him more about he started warming to the idea until I told him the price. I went to a consult with my Dr just to find out more. We sat down and had a talk about it after that. He wanted me to be happy and said he knows I am not happy the way I am and will help me anyway he can. Went back to the Drs a couple times, got my date, had the surgery and here I am. He has been my rock through all this.

I'm having hubby problems as well, but they are a bit diffrent from the rest, my hubby is all for the surgery, but on his terms (when and where I do it) and we are not seeing eye to eye on this point. I made another thread in the lounge so I didn't take over this one. But men are the greatest.....when they get what they want they are...:faint:

My husband was super supportive and was excited as I was about having the band. We both were doing a celibration dance the day I finally weighed less than he did. He is 6'2 and weighed 205 and I am 5'1 and at one point weighed 270...I was so embarrased. He knows the struggles I have gone through. Now my aim is to weigh less than my ex...lol...just 15 pounds to go. A big sloppy kiss to Mark(DH) for all his love and support!

I cant speak for husbands....but my wife hates the band. Me losing weight seems to really scare her for some reason. I try to comfort her and explain things. It never works tho.

she might think you are going to leave her or fool around. That's what my husband kept saying when I wanted to get the band. Just keep telling her you love her, and there is never going to be anyone else.

Me and my husband went for chinese buffet yesterday. Of course I can't eat that much, but he made the comment to me that I know your band works, because you only make one trip instead of three like you use to. I thought it was funny, and he is right.

Yeah, I have defenitely noticed that buffets don't hold the appeal they once did. LOL :D

Used to do three plates and a six inch tall bowl of soft serve.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
