Hi all! Myfitnesspal doesn't have zumba as an exercise option. I found a site that says that a 50 min medium intensity zumba workout burns about 715 calories. Does this sound accurate?

That is about accurate. I do Zumba alot. Now it depends on your personal intensisty level. That is for a fully intense workout, doing all the moves properly and at maximum intensity. For me, i know I am not doing what the instructor is doing so i cut that number in half and still make out good on calorie burned. it is not an excat scienc when you look it up becasue it also does not take your weight into account. But for the mist part, you do burn quite a bit.

Yes. That sounds accurate. I LOVE Zumba and have worn my HRM in the class several times. I have burned in the 900's before. Crazy good workout!!

I weigh 212 and am a little intimidated to go to Zumba....I'm not much of a dancer, maybe even kinda clumsy. Have a hard time keeping up with some sat cardio exercise videos. So,how hard is Zumba? How much did u weigh when u first started doing it?

I'm 220, 5'6 banded 3/5/12... Zumba is great cardio. I was a bit clumsy at first but you have to find a class you like go at your own pace until you get the routines down and then take it from there... It's also fun if your doing it with someone you know... I love it! I've only been doing it for about 3 weeks. I can't see the difference but other people say I'm shrinking in the middle... But then again they don't know I'm banded! My Measurements have changed though.

I'm 260 and have been doing Zumba since two weeks before surgery. Since surgery I've only been once, it's really hard to jump and stuff right now. I'm going to try it again next week. Lots of fun. I think the key is to find a class you enjoy without snobby people.

I was 284 when I started and am 252 now. I am having surgery in 2 weeks and will really miss Zumba for awhile. I don't think it is hard. It is a lot of dancing, but if you the moves correctly concentrating on your core, it is really a good workout. Coordination is a plus, but not a must. As long as you are moving and if you have a good instructor who concentrates on the importance of the moves, it is great. It is great fun. Once you get past the intimidation of the fact that you are shaking your butt around a lot, it is so much fun. Whe I first started, I felt self conscious knowing I was the biggest one in the room, but that will be changing soon! Good luck to you.

I was 284 when I did zumba at first, now 241- just back the once (will go tomorrow). It is so much fun, and don't worry about coordination- just try, and do your own thing to the music if you get lost or confused :).

How do you like the Wii Zumba? I've been eyeing it for a while. We bought Just Dance 2 for one of our kiddos recently and I've been using the "just sweat" option on that as an alternative for now. I love Zumba at the gym, but can't always get there!

I like the one for the wii(but the belt is kinda small for me so I had to get Velcro to make it little bigger) make sure u have some space to use it. I love it braise when I get home at 11 pm from work I do Zumba for 30-60 min and the cool down stretching. It nice ESP if u can't get to gym. I have Zumba fitness and Zumba fitness 2 for wii they were worth the money I will nintendo would come out with Zumba channel or something with new moved or songs I love it. I just got Zumba dance party DVD and I love it I'm relearning the moves to build up in 5 DVD set.

I do Zumba 2 x a week BUT i do NOT do any jumpy parts because of my knees and it is alot of fun. Our trainer says if, can't turn or jump DON'T- just wiggle in place until the next part, and its a great work out- main thing to to pace yourself.. go slow n work up.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
