Ready For My First Fill 9 Months Post Surgery!

Recommended Posts

I'm baaaack!!!!!! So I was banded on July 7th last year, and three weeks later didnt think I was healing very well so I went to the dr and found out band was ok, but I was 8 weeks PREGNANT! So yes, I was 5 weeks pregnant when I had surgery. 13 years of never being able to concieve then SURPRISE!!!!!!! Thankfully my baby survived surgery, xrays, lots of test, rapid weightloss, B12 absorption issues and extreme anemia, oh and pre-eclampsia.

I did not have a fill after my surgery, because of the pregnancy. It was left with the small amount that was put in during the surgery. I had no problems eating whateer i wanted. I did feel full quicker but also got hungry quick too. After I delivered my little miracle baby, within a day I noticed a huge difference with my eating. I started feeling really full really fast, couldnt eat bread or eggs without getting stuck, and couldnt drink while eating without feeling really uncomfortable. I talked with my OB about it and he said that during pregnancy the blood flow is so increased that digestion speeds up, so that is why I probably didnt have a problem while pregnant.

My baby girl is now a month old and I have lost 35 of the 55 pounds I gained. (I lost 35 pounds my first trimester) so I am 10 pounds less than my surgery day weight. I am excited to finally getting to utilize my lapband, but very nervous!!! I have not followed any of the lapband rules, and I am scared I wont have the results I may have had if I had had time to work the band before hand. But I am ready to give it my best. I look forward to seeing my surgeon May 3rd, and hope I will get my first fill and start seeing results.

Im here for all the support I can get, cuz I know I will need it!

Congratulations on your baby!! That is an amazing story!!!

For you to have already lost so much, with no fill, AND pregnant? Heck you're doing great! I think you'll do fabulous once you get a couple fills and have restriction.

Best wishes to you!!

Congratulations!!! You have a beautiful new baby, yeah you!!!! I am very surprised your surgeo. did not order a pregnancy test. I'm 54 and they did a pregnancy test on me a few days before surgery. said it was mandatory before an elective surgery! lol Needless to say, I was not pregnant!!!!

Thanks yall :)

I was told that they would do the pregnancy test that morning before surgery. I had a nursse who was really stressed and they were short staffed. I honestly dont beleive she did the test. I left the urine in the bathroom like I was told to do, and I remember thinking, she never went in there to test it. But I never would have dreamed I was pregnant, or I would have said something about it. I went through 7 years of fertility treatments before deciding to adopt my son. I never dreamed it would have been a possibility. Ive thought about going back and requesting the records to see if the results are in my chart, but I figure they probably covered their tracks... who knows!

My own nephew went thru lots of drugs and x-rays, becasue his mother was like you, and he was a complete surprise at 50 years of age. Anyway, congrats on your weight loss and YOU can do it, just fine!!Good luck and keep us updated, okay! Karen (we can all be Grandparents or other relatives ;-) )!!

Hi kimicky,

Can I ask how long you were on your pre op diet, and was It low carb? I'm a labor and delivery nurse and have worked in ob gyn for 15 years... I've seen a strong correlation between over weight women who make drastic changes on their lifestyles to a low carb diet... Who suddenly become pregnant after years of trying. Had you been diagnosed with pcos? Thanks for appeasing my curiosity. Congrats on your little miracle!

Thanks Kll, we will take all the grandparents we can get :)

Honestly I was only on my preop diet for a week. My insurance didnt require it and my doctor said it wasnt necessary. I did it only becaues I had read the success of everyone else and since i was so eager to get banded and start loosing, I figured It wouldnt hurt to start. I did loose about 6 pounds that week. I do have a diagnosis of PCOS and have done low carb diets before and actually lost 100 pounds about 3 years ago. I attribute my little miracle to the right timing I guess. Didnt seem like it at first with having the surgery, but now that she is here and healthy I wouldnt have it any other way. I do think it is already helping me get the weight off. Im down 10 pounds from my surgery day weight.

Thanks everyone for the sweet words and congratulations!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
