Just Saw This: Carnie Wilson Has Wls - Again!

Recommended Posts

Saw this article on my FB newsfeed from People magazine. Here is the link --> http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20580365,00.html

Twelve years after Carnie Wilson underwent gastric bypass surgery and famously lost 150 lbs., the singer has done it again: On January 18, Wilson went under the knife for lap-band surgery, PEOPLE confirms exclusively.

Since having the procedure – during which a silicone band is placed around the stomach to create a pouch the size of a golf ball – Wilson, 43, has lost 30 lbs. and counting.

"It was the right decision for me and I'm doing really well so far," Wilson tells PEOPLE. "It's all about taking good care of myself."

The singer, who is reuniting with Wilson Philips to promote their new album and their TV Guide Network reality show Wilson Philips: Still Holding On (premiering April 8), has struggled to lose the post-pregnancy pounds. Wilson has two daughters, Lola, 6, and Luciana, 2, with her musician husband Rob Bonfiglio, 44.

"Having children derailed me a bit," Wilson told PEOPLE in 2010 of her weight struggles. "I'm just frustrated with these pounds."

You beat me to the punch! She's the new Lap band spokesperson. You should be seeing and hearing quite a bit from her over he next few months.

Hopefully this will work for her then....good example of how the bypass can fail as well I guess.

I don't know how I feel about her being the spokesperson. If she's informative and tells everyone it's a TOOL.... But will see

All I can say is thank God I don't have to have the whole nation judge me! I hope she does well. Sounds like alcohol might be a problem too, this is not a surprise. we are compulsive about everything we do. hope she can beat them both!

I, also, started to read the comments. They were needlessly cruel, but then you know how pompus some folks are! Good luck to here, and I, also, am not sure of her as the National spokesperson.

I had a healthcheck for work yesterday and it turns out I'm the healthiest person in my company of 80 people. My blood sugar levels, my blood pressure, my cholesterol, everything, is perfect. I can't imagine what those would have been 5 years ago before my lapband surgery.

And when the nurse practitioner asked me what I ate and I described my regular day's worth of food to her, she almost fell over. She asked me how I possibly could eat that little and how I even had enough energy with so little food. She then started saying that I surely must not be getting enough nutrition from what I ate.

Well, apparently not, because I aced the healthcheck, and my current lifestyle makes me healthier than 79 other people in my office. The proof is in the pudding.

And it absolutely highlights the fact that I actually have to eat FAR FAR less than a 'regular' person to be this thin. And I exercise more than most people to be this fit.

So for anyone who tells me all I needed was to eat less and move more, I say, you know what? Until I got my lapband that didn't work. Because I've lost the weight now with the help of my band, so it obviously wasn't because I was a glutton or bone ass lazy. I just needed help with portions. And you can't argue with my success now, can you?

So until you've been in my shoes, you can keep your uninformed, unecessary and, to be honest, rather freakin' ignorant comments to yourself.

:)

Every bariatric surgery has it's problems. RNY is great because people lose weight so fast (due to malabsorption) but I recall my original band dr saying (when we were discussing options) that with RNY you have to work hard to get your weight loss done in year one because by year 2 the stomach begins to relax a little and the body adapts and weight loss becomes much more difficult.

Then in the next breath he told me how much discipline it takes to lose weight with a Lap Band because there isn't malabsorption issues.

I am hearing about more and more RNY patients coming back for a lapband, it's actually not so unusual.

And so, she's on the same crazy journey we all are on. I hope she finds some peace.

I have heard of several people who had this "band over by-pass" done. I have a friend that should have it.

Hey! Did she do her research here at LBT!? Is she a member? Is she already one of us? :)

If so, Welcome to bandland Carnie :D

I read this too which brought me back to this forum after a long hiatus. When I got my band over 3 years ago...I had a lot of pressure from friends who had RNY and saying that there were many more problems with the band over RNY..the band takes longer, why would you want to do that..etc? I've NEVER regretted getting the band over RNY and it seems as time goes by..more and more RNY patients are doing the band surgery. I love Carnie Wilson..she is strong and true! I hope this works for her!!

Are there any members on here that have had the RNY several years ago and are now having the lap band? I would like to know as I had the RNY 14-15 years ago and have gained back most of the weight.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
