Banded On March 20Th 2012

Recommended Posts

Wow, I am such a baby! Banded on the 20th. Went to work today, only made it 4 hours. I have a desk job, and was inundated with information the minute I walked in the door!

I have been mostly pain free since last Friday, and at 3 1/2 hours my port incision started hurting like crazy. By the time I left I was in pretty bad pain. I don't know why that happened but I figured I stayed 1/2 hour too long!

Do not fret though, I am going back tomorrow!!

I've lied to most, sad to say. Ive been telling people I had my gall bladder removed. Other than my close friends and immediate family, I'm not ready to share, or listen to negative comments about why I would have surgery

Petit avant,

I agree. I only told my closest friends that i trust not to tell and my family. I feel that it really isn't anyone's business unless you want it to be. Too many negative thinkers out there. I don't want people to think i took the "easy way out"... If only they knew, this is anything but easy!

I wanted this surgery 5 yrs ago and didn't do it because of the discouragement... I gained 80 more lbs over 5 yrs and decided I had enough of being over weight to Hell with everybody else! I'm gonna do this for me. I have no other health issues and I didn't want that to change since I'm knocking at 40 in age soon.

Did you guys tell people about the band or are you keeping quiet?

I am sorta lucky to have my life very compartmentalized. I have work people, friends, and family. I haven't told any of my family (complicated relationships). I haven't told my boyfriend (didn't want to hear "but I love you just the way you are!" I know that, but I don't love me this way, and that's all that really matters). I told them I was having a hiatal hernia repair (which is true....they repaired it during the surgery). I've only told a few friends....the ones who will keep their mouths shut :) And, I told everyone at work....mainly because I didn't want to play 20 questions every day. Yes, I'm losing weight, and you already know how. I didn't want to field, "Oh what diet are you on? How much are you exercising?," blah, blah, blah, every time I turned around. Figured telling them was just easier.

Did you tell people?

lewilli- if you feel guilty about having frozen yogurt, try freezing a couple of sf pudding cups. Taste like ice cream ! i was banded last december 13th, i had the shoulder pain and soreness on the left side for about 10 days, then it was gone. Im down 25 lbs, just hit Onederland a few days ago ! Woo hoo !!! Good luck to all, it's a slow journey but the results are SO worth it. Good luck to all !

I have no secrets and am very open about my surgery. I am a teacher and I even told my middle school students. They are about to see some rapid weight loss and I want them to know that I didn't starve myself or become bulimic. I don't want my girls to get the wrong message. I explained to them that this was for medical reasons. I have been talking about this surgery for a long time and it took over a year to get approved. Most people have gotten used to the discussion and have been very supportive. They have seen me struggle and work hard to lose weight with very little success.

I told very few people- mother, father, stepmom, boyfriend, and boss (who is like a mother too). Nobody else knows or suspects anything has changed. I took a couple days off schedule and my employees assumed I was doing something fun. When I came back, I was pretty normal.

The weight doesn't come off drastically with the band. And I work from home and travel to the office only 3 times a year. As I stated before I didn't want to hear any negative comments or scare tactics about how I could die or why's ....so I ran with the theory less is more. I workout everyday...the band is just an aid and assistance to a lifetime change

I was banded on March 28. My left side is still swollen, when I lay down I get severe pains in my left shoulder and collarbone,so I sleep on my right side. I have trouble sleeping through the night, and taking breath. When will it end? When will I be able to breath freely?Sleep on both sides?

I had my band done on march 20th. I'm down 13lbs. But I'm still very swollen on my belly so much that my jeans won't button up. I was suppose to go back to work tomorrow but I'm going in for a check up. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little scared.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
