Gained Weight Immediately After Surgery! Help! Did This Happen To Anyone Else????

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys-

I am FREAKING OUT right now! I just had my band put on yesterday, Feb. 6th, 2012. So . . . I did really well on my pre-op liquid diet. When I went in for surgery yesterday, I was down 14 pounds and soooo happy! So, I get home today and I decide to get on the scale since I was just eating ice chips for the past 2 days. And the scale showed that I GAINED 10 pounds! What the HECK is that? Is that Fluid? Please somebody talk to me and tell me that it's normal so I don't give up on this whole process! How discouraging!!

Thanks,

Cakes

You had an IV while in the hospital, yes? You are retaining a TON of fluids right now. It will take a little while to work itself out of you, too. That is why your weight is showing an increase. Once the fluids work it's way out, you'll go back down again.

Don't go near another scale for at least week. ;)

I was so bloated from the IV fluids post surgery I got new streatch marks on my arms!!!! I was so upset! It goes away in after a couple of days though. I am convinced they do it to make sure we are getting up and walking after surgery (I was hobbling to the bathroom so much). Make sure to drink lots of Water to keep everything moving.

I was banded on Friday and I was up on the scale when I got home as well. Don't freak out! Your body is retaining fluids, gas, etc..

I am on day 4 and the scale has gone down drastically.

don't panic. You will be fine. I gained weight too up to two weeks later. Your body goes into starvation mode immediately and is fighting what you are doing. Eventually this changes but this is a slow weight loss because you have to overcome phyisical symptoms of starvation. Just relax, you are on your way

Your body will retain Fluid around the injured area, in this case surgery.

You will know when it starts to come off. Don't worry,,, It will come off.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
